How to Recruit Sam Coe

You will first meet Sam Coe during the quest “The Empty Nest,” which is part of the game’s main storyline. After you bring the treasure from Akila City back to the Lodge during this quest, you can ask Sam to join your crew.

Can You Romance Sam Coe?

Like many other companions, Sam is romanceable, and the rugged cowboy is not a bad pick. Sam Coe is romanceable once you finish his quest – “Family Matters.” Here are some ways you can increase your affinity with him.

  • Sam loves his daughter, Cora. So, you must say positive things about her and his parenting whenever the option pops up during dialogue.
  • Sam hates his lineage, so avoid bringing it up.
  • He likes it when you can solve conflicts without violence and if you help people without expecting or taking payment.
  • Sam also likes the Freestar Rangers, even though he is an ex-member. So, an easy way to gain affinity is to join them and complete hostage rescue contracts from the Freestar bounty board.

Travel with Sam after unlocking him as a companion, talk to him whenever the objective pops up, and select the [FLIRT] option while talking to him. Affinity is a hidden stat, but the top right corner displays messages such as ” Sam Coe liked that” or “Sam Coe disliked that” to indicate a rise or fall in affinity.

Once you have reached a high enough affinity level, you will unlock the “Matters of the Hart” quest. Complete this quest and select the [ROMANCE] dialogue option at the end. Select the [COMMITMENT] dialogue option in your next conversation with Sam, and this will unlock the “Commitment: Sam Coe” quest, which you can finish to marry Sam.

Sam Coe Assignments

After recruiting crew members, you can assign roles to them. You should carefully ponder what role you should assign someone, which will help maximize their unique skills.

Sam is great for Ships and Exploration due to his high piloting skills. His payload skill is also helpful, as the greater cargo capacity can help you out if you want to transport a lot of goods. However, he has no skills that are particularly useful for outposts. Hence, he is best utilized as a ship crew or companion to make the most of his skills.
