Respawn has shared a major anti-cheat update for Apex Legends, revealing that more than 139,000 accounts were banned during Season 28. With Season 29 now underway, the anti-cheat team looked back at the previous season and described it as one of the gameโ€™s most secure seasons yet, backed by new detection systems, a record-low match infection rate, and a major Ranked cleanup.

Across Season 28, which ran from February 10 to May 5, Respawn says it issued a total of 139,697 bans across all platforms for various cheating infractions. The studio also removed nearly 8 million Ranked Points from accounts confirmed to have cheated, showing that the crackdown was not only about banning accounts, but also cleaning up the damage those accounts caused on the Ranked ladder.

Apex Legends Banned 139,697 Accounts During Season 28

According to Respawnโ€™s anti-cheat team, Apex Legends issued 139,697 bans throughout Season 28. That number covers cheating-related infractions across all platforms from February 10 to May 5.

The studio also shared some of the specific categories targeted during the season. DMA-related bans reached 4,290, HWID spoofer bans reached 7,136, automatic hardware detection accounted for 10,658 bans, and XIM or Titan-related bans hit 3,865.

Respawnโ€™s latest update suggests the team is continuing to aim directly at those methods rather than only banning obvious aimbot or wallhack users.

Respawn Removed Nearly 8 Million RP From Cheating Accounts

The highlight of the update for Ranked players may be the RP removal. Respawn says it removed a total of 7,912,251 RP from accounts with confirmed cheating infractions during Season 28.

That total was split between 4,413,776 RP removed in Split 1 and 3,498,475 RP removed in Split 2.

Cheaters do not just ruin individual matches. They also distort the ladder, push legitimate players down, and make high-rank achievements feel less trustworthy. Removing RP from confirmed cheating accounts helps clean up at least part of that damage.

Apex Hit Its Lowest Match Infection Rate Ever

Respawn also said Season 28 brought Apex Legends to its lowest match infection rate ever, reaching 4.1%. The anti-cheat team credited this to multiple new detection systems, along with updates and overhauls to existing systems.

This is a notable improvement from an earlier Season 28 update, where Respawn said the game had reached a 4.1% infection rate midway through Split 2, down from a previous all-time low of 5.8% reported in December 2025.

In simple terms, the infection rate refers to how often matches are impacted by cheaters. A lower number means fewer games are being touched by confirmed cheating activity, which is exactly what Apex players have been asking to see for years.

ALGS Security Also Got a Boost

Respawnโ€™s anti-cheat work also extended into the competitive scene. The team says its systems denied 547 entries into ALGS tournaments during Season 28.

Ranked cheating is frustrating enough, but cheating concerns around tournaments can damage trust in the esport itself. By blocking suspicious or ineligible entries before they reach ALGS competition, Respawn is trying to protect both regular players and the gameโ€™s professional scene.

Season 29 Anti-Cheat Updates Are Still Coming

Respawn says the anti-cheat team is already working on more updates, enhancements, and detections for Season 29. The studio did not share full details yet, but it said more information will be revealed soon.

Cheat makers adapt, spoofers come back, and some banned players simply create new accounts. The real test for Season 29 will be whether Respawn can keep the infection rate low over time rather than only delivering big end-of-season numbers.

Apexโ€™s Anti-Cheat Fight Is Finally Showing Stronger Results

Apex Legends players have heard plenty of anti-cheat promises over the years, so some skepticism is understandable. Still, the Season 28 numbers are hard to ignore. More than 139,000 bans, nearly 8 million RP removed, 547 ALGS entries denied, and the lowest match infection rate the game has ever recorded all point to real progress.

The bigger question is whether players will actually feel that progress in their matches. Numbers are useful, but trust in Apex Ranked comes from the day-to-day experience of loading into games and feeling like the lobby is fair.
