Copper is one of the first major resources you need in Windrose, and it marks the point where the game starts opening up beyond basic survival. Once you start collecting Copper Ore and turning it into Copper Ingots, you can craft stronger tools, build important stations, and unlock a smoother path through the early game.
The good news is that Copper is not locked behind late-game progression. You can find it fairly early, but you need the right tool, the right location, and a proper smelting setup before it becomes useful.
Where To Find Copper in Windrose?
Copper Ore is found inside caves and mineral-rich areas in Windrose. You need to look for Copper Deposit mines while exploring, and these locations appear on your map with a small pickaxe icon once you are close enough.
Copper Deposit Caves are found in the Coastal Jungle, which is the starting region of the game. The entrance looks like a crack in a stone wall, and you can interact with it to go inside. Since caves can be dark, bringing an Oil Lamp or enough Wood to place torches can make mining much easier.
Craft a Stone Pickaxe First
Before you can mine Copper, you need a Stone Pickaxe. Destructoid says the first step is crafting a Workbench, then making a Stone Pickaxe using basic early materials. Once you have the Pickaxe, you can start mining Copper Ore from cave deposits.
Do not head into the cave empty-handed. Copper nodes will not be useful if you cannot break them, and your first mining trip should be planned properly. Clear some inventory space before going in because Copper Ore can fill your bag quickly, especially if you are also picking up Stone along the way.
How To Mine Copper Ore
Once you find a Copper Deposit Cave, equip your Stone Pickaxe and hit the Copper nodes until they break. Copper nodes can be mined by striking them with the Pickaxe, and players should empty their inventory first because ore stacks can take up space fast.
Copper deposits look like bluish-white ore veins that can be found inside caves, and these caves are often found while exploring the starting island. You should also stay alert, because caves can contain enemies or other hazards that make mining less relaxing than it looks.
How To Turn Copper Ore Into Copper Ingots
Copper Ore by itself is only the first step. To make it useful, you need to smelt it into Copper Ingots. You need a Charcoal Kiln and a Smelting Furnace for this process. The Charcoal Kiln requires 25 Wood and 20 Clay, while the Smelting Furnace requires 15 Clay and 30 Stone.
After building both stations, place Wood into the Charcoal Kiln to create Charcoal. Then use the Smelting Furnace to turn Copper Ore into Copper Ingots. The recipe is 4 Copper Ore and 1 Charcoal for one Copper Ingot.
Copper Ingots are a huge early progression material in Windrose. Copper Ore unlocks the Smelting Furnace and Charcoal Kiln, while Copper Ingots unlock several important recipes and stations, including the Weaponsmith, Cutting Board, Sawing Rack, Saber, Copper Axe, Copper Pickaxe, Shovel, Wooden Plank, Lamp, and Copper Pot.
That makes Copper one of the most important early resources in the game. It is not just for better tools. It also connects to base upgrades, crafting progression, cooking, lighting, and exploration.
Best Way To Farm Copper Early
The best way to farm Copper early is to make repeat trips to Copper Deposit Caves in the Coastal Jungle. Bring a Stone Pickaxe, clear your inventory, and mine every Copper node you can find before returning to base.
Once you have enough Clay, Wood, and Stone, build your Charcoal Kiln and Smelting Furnace as soon as possible. Smelting takes time, so it is smart to keep Charcoal production running while you are out gathering more ore. This way, when you return from a mining trip, you already have fuel ready for the Furnace.
What To Craft First With Copper
Your first few Copper Ingots should go toward tools and progression items that make the rest of the game easier. A Copper Pickaxe is a strong early upgrade because it improves your mining flow. A Shovel is also important since it lets you dig up buried treasure and complete certain early side content. The Copper Axe is useful if you want faster Wood gathering, while the Lamp helps with darker caves and nighttime exploration.
You do not need to craft everything at once. Focus on what helps your current goal. If you are exploring more caves, upgrade your Pickaxe and bring better lighting. If you are following treasure clues, craft the Shovel. If your base needs more resources, the Copper Axe becomes more valuable.
To get Copper in Windrose, craft a Stone Pickaxe, explore the Coastal Jungle, and look for Copper Deposit Caves marked by a pickaxe icon on the map. Mine Copper Ore from the cave nodes, then return to your base and smelt it into Copper Ingots using a Smelting Furnace and Charcoal.
Copper is one of the biggest early game milestones in Windrose. Once you have a steady supply, you can craft better tools, unlock new stations, and move through the early survival grind much faster.
