Final Fantasy 16 changes how the summons works in the game. Here is how to summon Garuda in the game.
The original Final Fantasy games were turn-based JRPGs. But recent entries have been exploring a combination of turn-based and character-action combat. Finally, the new entry Final Fantasy 16, takes a different approach by completely discarding the hybrid system and instead introducing a streamlined character action combat system.
With the new system, they have introduced the Eikons and Dominants in the game. Each Eikon fight is a big spectacle that rivals the likes of early God of War fights. That said, Clive will eventually be able to summon his own Eikon, but because of how the new system works, he cannot summon any Eikon he wants.
But that doesn’t mean he cannot use the ability of these Eikons. Here we will go through how to unlock and use Grauda in Final Fantasy 16.

How to Unlock Garuda in Final Fantasy 16
Garuda is the Wind Eikon, with its Dominant being Benedikta Harman. You will need to defeat Benedikta to gain the essence of Grauda and unlock its abilities. You will fight her on the main quest line, so you don’t need to worry about missing the fight. The quest you will fight her in is titled Headwind.
Even though you will defeat Benedikta in the Headwind quest, the ability tree for Garuda will not be available until the next main quest, titled Wings of Change. After unlocking the skill tree, you can upgrade and start using Garuda’s abilities in the battle.
All Garuda Abilities in FF16
As the wind Eikon, Garuda has attacks to lift and juggle enemies in the air. These skills have a lot of synergies with other Eikon abilities. Here are the abilities you will gain from Garuda:
- Aerial Blast – Summon a tornado to hone in on enemies and hit multiple times.
- Rook’s Gambit – Jump back, then deliver a punishing counter. This jump can evade an attack, and evading like this increases the damage.
- Deadly Embrace – Send a grappling claw out to grab an enemy. Lighter enemies will be pulled toward Clive, while heavier enemies will launch Clive into the air.
- Wicked Wheel – Perform a rising attack. This strikes all enemies within range and lifts them from the ground.
- Gouge – Summon twin claws that relentlessly tear at a target.
How to Use Garuda Abilities
Since Clive is not the Dominant of Garuda, he cannot directly summon her in the battle. That being said, Garuda has one of the most synergistic abilities in the game. This makes its abilities a lot of fun to mess around with. Players who want to combo with other Eikon abilities will also find Garuda’s abilities helpful.
Moreover, almost all of Garuda’s abilities can be cast in mid-air. You can even lift enemies into the air and juggle them using different Eikon abilities. Titan has some abilities that can be cast in mid-air to bypass the casting minigame. So Garuda has a lot of potential to be played with different Eikons.
