Final Fantasy 16 changes how the summons works in the game. Here is how to summon Odin in the game.
Final Fantasy 16 overhauls the combat system of the franchise. Final Fantasy started as a turn-based JRPG, and in recent years, they have been experimenting with a hybrid between turn-based and character action combat. But Final Fantasy 16 gets rid of the hybrid system for a focused character action combat system.
With the new system, they have introduced the Eikons and Dominants in the game. Each Eikon fight is a big spectacle that rivals the likes of early God of War fights. That said, Clive will eventually be able to summon his own Eikon, but because of how the new system works, he cannot summon any Eikon he wants.
Even though he cannot summon any Eikon, he can use pretty much every Eikon’s power by the end of the game. Here we will go through how you can unlock Odin, what abilities you get from him, and how to use them in combat efficiently.

How to Unlock Odin in Final Fantasy 16
Barnabas Tharmr is the Dominant for Odin. Odin has Dark element attacks that are pretty good against any enemy of the game. The fast attacks paired with the flashy skillset is one of our favorite in Final Fantasy 16.
To unlock Odin as an Eikon, you have to complete the quest called The Last King. Since it is a main story quest, you don’t need to worry about missing the quest and potentially missing an Eikon from the collection. After completing this quest, you will be able to use Odin’s ability in the game.
All Odin Abilities in FF16
Odin has a flashy combat skillset with good damage. All of his skills contribute to a gauge called the Zantetsuken gauge. Once the gauge is filled, you can unleash an attack that deals massive damage to the enemies.
- Gungnir – Summon the legendary spear Gungnir and attack with a flurry of deadly slices and strokes. Each hit fills the Zantetsuken gauge.
- Heaven’s Cloud – Surge forward to strike an enemy. If the attack hits, the skill can be used again without a cooldown.
- Rift Slip – Recover immediately from any ability or action.
- Arm of Darkness – Replace Clive’s current weapon with Odin’s blade. Hold The button to execute Zantetsuken. Attacks with the blade also fill the Zantetsuken gauge.
- Dancing Steel – Summon a second blade and unleash a flurry of attacks. All attacks hit fills the Zantetsuken gauge.

How to Use Odin Abilities
After defeating the Dominant of Odin, a new skill tree will unlock in the menu. From that skill tree, you can unlock all of Odin’s abilities. Then you can equip these abilities to use them in the game. Also, it needs to be mentioned that since Clive is not the Dominant of Odin, he cannot summon him directly on the field.
Since Odin’s best skill is locked behind the Zantetsuken gauge, it requires you to use his skills as frequently as possible. That leaves very less potential for a combo with other Eikon abilities. But if you enjoy the flashy and fast-paced combat style, then you will like Odin as your Eikon ability of choice.
