Bungie has confirmed that Marathon servers are back online following a round of maintenance and a new patch deployment. The downtime came after players ran into connection issues that disrupted runs, contracts, and planned play sessions during the latest update window.

According to the Marathon development team, players who are still seeing Anteater, Monkey, or Weasel error codes should restart the game and try logging in again. Bungie also said it will continue monitoring the situation and share more updates if needed.

Bungie Is Giving Players Free Sponsored Kits

To make up for the disruption, Bungie is sending compensation to players who were active during the affected period. Anyone who played Marathon between June 2 at 10:00 AM PT and 4:00 PM PT will receive seven Sponsored Kits through the in-game mailbox.

The rewards will be split across two mailbox messages and include the Superior CyberAcme Kit, Deluxe NuCal Kit, Deluxe MIDA Kit, Deluxe Traxus Kit, Deluxe Arachne Kit, Deluxe Sekiguchi Kit, and Deluxe UESC Kit.

Sponsored Kits can be useful for getting back into the action quickly, especially in a game where loadouts and preparation can heavily affect each run.

What Caused The Marathon Server Issues?

The latest server problems appear to have been tied to the gameโ€™s maintenance period and patch rollout. Players reported several connection-related errors, including Anteater, Monkey, and Weasel, which forced Bungie to take action and bring the servers offline temporarily.

While outages are never ideal, they can feel especially frustrating in an extraction shooter like Marathon. A single disconnect can ruin a run, waste a contract, or cost players valuable time they had set aside to grind.

Marathon Players Should Check Their Mailbox

Players who qualify for the compensation should check their in-game mailbox once they return to Marathon. The seven Sponsored Kits will not arrive as one single package, so players should look for two separate messages containing the rewards.

Bungie has not said that players need to submit a claim or contact support to receive the kits. As long as players logged in during the affected window, the rewards should be delivered automatically.

Marathonโ€™s latest outage came at a rough time, especially with more players jumping in to experience the new content. Server issues can quickly sour the mood around a live-service game, but Bungieโ€™s decision to hand out Sponsored Kits shows that the studio is at least trying to make up for the lost time.
