A new Marathon leak has revealed several experimental cosmetic concepts Bungie is reportedly testing with players, including a striking K-pop-themed Runner skin. The concepts arrive at a crucial moment for the extraction shooter, with its Steam player count recently dropping below 1,000 concurrent players for the first time on Steam.
With Season 3 approaching and Bungie preparing major gameplay changes, these cosmetics could be another part of the studio’s attempt to bring players back.
In brief:
- A Bungie player survey reportedly featured a K-pop-themed Vandal skin alongside several other cosmetic concepts.
- Other themes include Ascendant Space Gods and Decora Protocol.
- None of the surveyed cosmetics are currently confirmed for release.
- Marathon recently fell to 987 concurrent Steam players, putting even more pressure on Season 3.
Marathon Leak Reveals K-Pop Runner Skin
According to images shared by players who received a recent Bungie survey, the studio is testing several possible directions for future Marathon cosmetics.

The most eye-catching concept is officially described in the survey as a “K-pop theme.” It appears to be designed for Vandal and features a black, gold, and pink outfit with oversized headphones, bright accessories, and a segmented cybernetic ponytail.
The survey also includes an Ascendant Space Gods theme featuring futuristic white and chrome designs for Triage, Thief, and Assassin. Another set called Decora Protocol takes inspiration from Harajuku fashion, combining oversized clothing, tactical equipment, and extremely bright colors. Several additional unnamed concepts were also shown.
Importantly, these are concepts rather than confirmed upcoming skins. Bungie appears to be measuring player interest before deciding which cosmetic directions are worth pursuing.
Could K-Pop Cosmetics Help Bring Players Back?
The timing makes the survey particularly interesting. Marathon recently dropped to just 987 concurrent Steam players, down dramatically from its 88,337-player Steam peak at launch. Steam only represents the PC portion of the player base, but the decline still paints a difficult picture for Bungie’s live-service shooter.

The response to the cosmetics is already mixed. Some Reddit users reacted enthusiastically to the more ambitious designs, while others argued that K-pop-inspired cosmetics move too far away from Marathon’s established visual identity.
Season 3 Is Starting to Look Like Marathon’s Hail Mary

Season 3 launches on September 22 and Bungie has already confirmed major Perimeter changes, new areas, encounters, weapons, equipment, and another Runner shell. Bungie has also been experimenting with PvE through Vault Breaker, while recent leaks suggest an even larger PvE experience could be coming.
With Marathon hemorrhaging Steam players, Bungie appears to be betting heavily on Season 3 to change the game’s trajectory. Flashier cosmetic ideas, including a possible K-pop-inspired skin, could help generate attention from players who previously found the game’s cosmetics too conservative.
At this stage, Season 3 is beginning to look less like another content update and more like Bungie’s Hail Mary attempt to rebuild interest in Marathon before its shrinking player population becomes an even bigger problem.
