Riot keeps on aiming to make Seraphine a viable mid-laner while not meddling with her support role once again in patch 13.22.

Compared to the recent few patches, 13.22 has been relatively light in a number of changes. However, just like any other League of Legends update, it has its fair share of controversies. The upcoming patch is packed with adjustments, nerfs, and buffs to champions such as Briar, Mundo, Brand, Janna, etc, with changes to mage attack speed, among many others.

Among them, Seraphine is again in the spotlight thanks to Riot’s questionable changes to her in the previous patch. The intention was to make her primarily support while not having to sacrifice her viability as a bot lane APC or a mid-laner. The result was a plethora of changes to her base stats and skills so she retains a fair balance of enchanter as well as power mage characteristics.

But we have to remember it’s the Riot balance team and rarely do things go their intended ways. So, instead of having a smoothed-out player preference in mid, bot, and sp roles, her win rate got skewed in favor of bot and mid. Conversely, performance took a nose dive as a support. This is clearly reflected in her op.gg stats. That’s why Riot is back again with more changes to her kit in the upcoming patch, 13.22.

In this article, I will present you with the specific changes Riot has cooked for her.

More Seraphine Updates in LoL Patch 13.22

Passive: Stage Presence

  • 4/8/14/25 + 7% AP >>> 5/10/18/30 + 5% AP (50/100/200/250 AP break-even)

Q: High Note

  • Damage amp Threshold: 75% missing HP >>> 85% missing HP

W: Surround Sound

  • Shield: 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 (+ 25% AP) >>> 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 (+ 20% AP)

By increasing her base damage in passive and lesser AP scaling, Seraphine will function better as a support in early to mid-game. The decreased AP ratio means that she won’t be too overwhelmed by the generous bonus AP that comes with support items. However, if she is played as a carry-in mid or bot, her damaging and scaling capabilities will not take that huge of a hit.

By increasing her damage amp threshold on Q to 85% missing HP, she will now do more damage to low HP targets. Again, this will be more noticeable if she builds pure AP damage build. With her support items, this change won’t see remotely the same level of scaling. That’s because the damage amp is tied with her existing magic damage capacity.

Finally, the scaling of her W shield is reduced by 5% so that support items become more relevant to her. We have seen a lot of Enchanter supports build pure AP and still get massive shields due to the unbalanced scaling. With this change, traditional enchanter items such as Ardent Censer and Moonstone Renewer might become more relevant.

I think these changes are pretty well-thought-out and should get Seraphine out of the mess created after patch 13.21.
