Riot Games is updating the default splash art for one of the most popular champions, Hecarim.

League of Legends was released in 2009, more than a decade ago. And since then, Riot has released a plethora of content to this game. Some of these contents released back then never even got a proper update. As a result, some of them look awful if someone looks at them now. For example, Black Alistar is one of the oldest skin released in the game, and it is just a black recolor of Alistar. And by today’s standard, it looks abysmal.

But Riot Games are trying to update the game and its content constantly. These updates could range from general stats adjustments to VGU or Visual and Gameplay Update, where Riot fully overhauls a champion’s visual and kit.

But Riot has been doing more visual updates since the previous season to keep all the older champions up to par. One of the primary ways they are doing it is by giving ASU to certain champions. ASU, or Art and Sustainability Update, is where Riot overhauls a champion’s visual without changing their looks. For now, Riot has updated two champions with these updates. They are Caitlyn and Ahri. Both of them were very well received. And recently, Riot announced that they would give ASU to two more champions, Lee Sin and Teemo.

Besides big-scale ASU, Riot also does more minor visual updates as well. In the previous season, Riot updated various champions’ VFX. Moreover, they also updated Kassadin’s splash art as well. And recently, they have also changed the splash art for Rugged Garen. And now Riot will be updating the splash art for Hecarim.

Hecarim Base Splash Art Update

Hecarim was released in early 2012. Though he was released early, his splash art aged very well. But the new splash art is somehow better than the previous one. The most noticeable difference is his new face. Presumably, due to censorship laws, Riot has redesigned Hecarim’s face from a skull to something different. However, for Hecarim, it is a positive change as it makes him more fearsome. His armor also was changed from a head to actual body armor, making him more of a warden of the Shadow Isles.

The spear change is also very incredible. It also looks like Spear of Shojin; Hecarim is one of the few champions who can utilize this item correctly. And the background change also fits nicely with the rest of the change. Moreover, Riot will only be updating his splash art. So there won’t be any in-game visual updates.
