A new ability icon update just dropped for Caitlyn in the PBE server.

Caitlyn has been one of the most popular champions in League of Legends since her release in 2011. But after the release of Arcane, her popularity skyrocketed even further, which led to Riot changing Caitlyn’s visuals and abilities.

The changes came in the form of the Caitlyn Art & Sustainability Update or ASU in 2021. The ASU introduced a new character model and visual effects, added visual clarity, updated her abilities, and overall brought her up to date with the League of Legends’ modern design philosophies.

Although the ASU was a resounding success, Riot missed the chance to update her ability icons. As a result, her ability icons have been the same since her release and are pretty outdated compared to modern ability icons.

So, after all these years, Riot announced that they would update Caitlyn’s ability icons.

For the new icons, Riot has kept them mostly similar but removed all the visual clutter. They also made the icons instantly recognizable, especially the R – Ace in the Hole icon, unlike the last icon, which felt more like a laser pointer. Moreover, the new icon feels like Caitlyn is sniping an enemy from afar. Riot also has done a fantastic job of improving visual clarity.

Overall a fantastic change for Caitlyn.

Release Date

The new Caitlyn Spell Icons are currently in the PBE (Public Beta Environment) servers for testing. It will be shipped to the live servers on patch 12.21 on Wednesday, Nov 2, 2022.
