Riot Games officially confirms Syndra mini-rework; releasing on League of Legends patch 12.19.

Syndra has always been a meta pick in professional play because of her insane burst damage potential with her E>Q combo. In season 10, she had an astonishing 59.6% presence in pro games while also maintaining an above 50% win rate. However, that gradually decreased over time, where she had 32.9% presence in season 11 and only 15.3% this season.

In soloq, we can also see the same trend, where her pick rate & win rate drop drastically with the start of season 12.

According to many, the main reason for her downfall is her lack of balance updates — the last time Syndra received a major balance update was back in season 10. As a result, in season 12, she simply couldn’t cope with meta champions like Corki, Viktor, newly reworked Ahri, and others.

Many players have called her “underwhelming” in the current meta and asked Riot to give her some balance update.

Fortunately, Riot has been pushing some great mini-rework for champions that were “underwhelming” in the meta and needed some love. AhriJanna, and Taliyah are some great examples whose mini-reworked landed in season 12 and are doing relatively well in the current meta. And last month, Riot even teased Syndra’s mini-rework where they would revitalize her kit to make her viable once again.

Now that Riot is releasing the most hyped event of the year, the Spirit Blossom 2022 event, in the upcoming patch, where Syndra is also getting a new skin, they have officially confirmed that Syndra will receive a mini-rework in patch 12.19. Excellent marketing strategy, isn’t it?

Regarding Syndra’s mini-rework, League of Legends Game Designer Riot TheTruexy, said, “the main goals (for this mini-rework) were to keep her core gameplay but enhance her passive to open up bigger high moments and real feelings of power upgrades.”

    • Leveling up grants Syndra 5 Splinters of Wrath
    • Killing a Cannon minion grants 1 Splinters of Wrath

  • 100 Splinters of Wrath: Executes champions below 15% max health

Though pretty much all of her kits are getting some sort of balance update, the most significant change of them all is the new passive. With this new mini-rework, Syndra can now collect up to 120 Splinters, which can be gained by damaging enemies, leveling up, and killing cannon minions.

When she has 60 Splinters, Syndra will be able to store 2 Dark Sphere, and upon gaining 100 Splinters of Wrath, she will be able to execute champions who are below 15% max health. Her E – Scatter the Weak is also getting benefited by these Splinters.

Moreover, when Syndra gains 120 Splinters, her passive icon will change, and she will receive 15% total AP.

Release Date

Syndra’s mini-rework is currently on the PBE for testing. And the full changes should hit the live servers on League of Legends patch 12.19, scheduled for Wednesday, October 5, 2022.
