Are you wondering about all the shenanigans behind the 100T Akali Emote? I have got you covered.

Even though League of Legends’ chat can be notoriously toxic sometimes, emotes have always been a fun little way to communicate without typing. If you are mad, want to taunt, or show disrespect, you name it, there is a vast pool of emotes to show your emotions.

So, to utilize that, just last week, on their official blog post Riot Games announced that they are releasing the new Global Emotes for League of Legends, where all the emotes are custom-designed by the Tier 1 LoL esports team. Each emote costs 350RP and 30% of the gross revenue directly goes to the respective teams.

While every emote looks phenomenal and clearly shows how much work each team put into forming them, one specific emote — 100T Akali emote — caught a lot of eyeballs during its reveal.

Where It All Started

Based on the blog post, here is the original 100T Akali emote that was announced:

At first glance, the concept and the champion choice are just masterfully crafted. In a normal scenario, the emotes could have been used for “that was so close,” “missed it by this much,” or “not even close.”

But, just by the look of it, the emote clearly can be used for another purpose.

And just like everyone else, yes, you guessed it right! The emote is just another way of saying “You have a small pp.”

Many players expressly said that they were going to use the emotes specifically for that matter.

The Controversy

Well, if you just count the West, you can say, “It is whatever, it’s just some edgy emote, who cares?”

But in Korea, this hand gesture or sign is a big deal, and often regarded as offensive to men.

I will not go into the nitty-gritty details of the entire political aspects of it.

But in a nutshell, Korean extreme feminists use this hand sign ‘🤏’ to hate men and it is basically a hate sign nowadays.

Many believe it started with some online feminists who were mostly “a femcel circlejerk.” But later on, it became so big that, it got mainstream media attention and later turned into a massive political thing.

If you want to check how Korean people feel about this hand gesture, I recommend you check the YouTube video below.

But I have also seen some different opinions on the matter on X. Where some feminists were saying that the hate on men thing using this sign is not entirely true.

Anyhow, just after the emote’s reveal, many people on both Reddit and X were questioning Riot, and they are pretty much convinced that the emote would definitely change or get restricted on Riot Korea at least.

Riot Changed the 100T Emote

Even though the emote has a cool concept, seems like Riot Games is having none of it. Since the gesture can be used to body shame people and lead to extreme negativity, just one day after its reveal, Riot changed the 100T Akali Emote with a new hand gesture.

Here’s the new emote:

Many players were utterly disappointed by this announcement. But we have to remember that Korea has one of the biggest and most dedicated playerbase for League of Legends. And Riot would not do anything to jeopardize their reputation there.

Regardless, the emote still looks great. And can be used for “talking much?,” “I am not hearing from you anymore,” and so much more. Even though I did see many “booing” in a new Reddit thread because of this change, I would still recommend you buy the emote and support 100T.
