Here we will talk about all the best Alternator skins that Respawn has released in Apex Legends so far in 2022.
Apex Legends is the follow-up to the successful Titanfall franchise, which debuted in February of 2019. Although Titanfall and Apex Legends belong to separate game genres, they share the same universe.
As a result, many characters, features, and weapons that were originally introduced in the Titanfall franchise made their way into the Apex Legends. We have already seen some Titanfall characters such as Ash and Blisk in the game. Many abilities like Pathfinder’s grapple and Wraith’s Phase have also derived from Titanfall.
Apart from the Legends and abilities, weapons such as R-301, Wingman, Kraber, L-Star, Volt, Charge Rifle, and many more actually came from Titanfall as well. One such popular weapon in the game is the Alternator.
The Alternator is a Sub Machine Gun that was included with the initial release of Apex Legends. The SMG fires with two alternating barrels. Thus, the name Alternator came into being. The weapon utilizes Light Ammo in the game, which is the simplest to come by.

Because of its slower fire rate, the Alternator is a very easy weapon to use. The gun is also quite compact, making it ideal for run and gun situations. Throughout the lifespan of Apex Legends, the gun has gone through a considerable amount of tweaks, including the addition of the controversial Disruptor Rounds Hop-up in season 2.
Despite its lack of firepower, the Alternator is nevertheless a popular pick among players looking for a quick remedy to close-range gunfights. As a result, Apex Legends developers released plenty of attractive skins for Alternator, and despite the availability of other weapons, users still use it in season 12 of Apex Legends.
How Many Alternator Skins are there in Apex Legends?
In season 12, Respawn has released a total of 69 Alternator skins in Apex Legends. Among these, 16 legendary, 10 epic, 27 rare, and 16 common skins are available for this gun.
Best Alternator Skins in Apex Legends (A Complete Tier List)
Now we’ll rank each of the Legendary Alternator skins that Respawn has released in Apex Legends thus far, putting them into three categories: S-Tier, A-Tier, and B-Tier.
The S-Tier Alternator skins are the most unique and cool-looking ones available out there. The A-Tier Alternator skins are tough contenders for the S-Tier counterparts. They are also rare, and some of them are really sought-after by the community. However, the B-Tier Alternator skins feel very common compared to their S and A-Tier peers.
There is no absolute right way to make a Tier list for these skins. All the skins mentioned below are worthy enough to be put elsewhere on the list. This Tier list is purely subjective, and you can shuffle between these skins based on your own preference and approach to the game.
This list is intended primarily to assist novices and veteran players looking for some of the best-looking legendary Alternator skins in the game.
- Best(S-Tier): The Galvanizer, LED Rez, The Illuminator
- Good(A-Tier): Amped Up, Code Blue, Dark Hearted
- Average(B-Tier): Devil’s Right Hand, Power Coil, Combined Powers, The Swashbuckler, Haymaker
Top 10 Best Alternator skins in Apex Legends
Here, we’ll aim to highlight some of Respawn’s best-looking legendary Alternator skins thus far in Season 12. The Alternator has a considerable number of cool-looking legendary skins, so this top ten list will serve as a reference for players for easy picks. In addition, this list will be ranked from worst to the best.
10. The Swashbuckler
The Swashbuckler is a one-of-a-kind Alternator skin that resembles a customized handcrafted weapon for showmanship. Unsurprisingly, this Alternator skin has a pirate theme which confirms that this skin was actually inspired by a classic movie named Swashbuckler. It was introduced in the Iron Crown Event in season 2.
9. Combined Powers
Combined Powers is a colorful Alternator skin that seems like Morphin Power Rangers at first sight, which came together and created a Megazord. Combined Powers was a Part of Season 9’s Genesis Collection Event in 2021. This skin made a return in the Anniversary Collection Event store in February of 2022, where it was featured in a bundle.
8. Power Coil
Power Coil is a simplistic Alternator skin that looks more like a power tool issued from the factory just now. It has a stainless steel build with a copper power coil on top. The blue and lime green accent throughout the body gives it a nice touch of colors. Power Coil was featured in the Raiders Collection Event in season 11, and you could get this skin as a reward after collecting 3500 points in the event challenge.
7. Devil’s Right Hand
Devil’s Right Hand is a cyberpunk-themed Alternator skin, inspired by Wattson’s Cyber Punked Legendary skin. The skin has a nice combination of hot pink and black color tones. The spikes all over the skin and two devil horns in the front make the skin look more intense. Devil’s Right Hand was featured in the System Override Collection Event in season 4.
6. Dark Hearted
Dark Hearted Alternator skin was a part of the Fight Night Collection Event in season 7. The skin appears incredibly stunning because of the golden and silver color combination. The subtle details on this shiny skin give you a royal vibe in the game.
5. Haymaker
Haymaker was a part of the daily challenge rewards of the Shadowfall game mode from the Fight or Fright Collection Event in 2019. As it was released on Halloween, it has a spooky DIY theme. The skin looks similar to the Bloodhound’s Protector of The Patch skin. So if you own the Bloodhound skin, you’ll surely love this skin as well.
4. Code Blue
Code Blue is the recolor version of Search & Rescue Default Legendary Alternator skin. The vibrant and contrasting combination of orange and light blue makes the skin more remarkable than the other similar recolors or default ones in the game.
3. Amped Up
Amped Up is a popular Alternator skin with a neon blue and pink theme. This skin was a part of the Aftermarket Collection Event in season 6 of Apex Legends. If you like the Sonic Boom Octane skin, you’ll enjoy this one as well, because Amped Up and Sonic Boom are both complete packages with similar characteristics.
2. LED Rez
At first sight, LED Rez doesn’t look anything special. But if you actually focus on the color scheme, it will remind you of the movie TRON: Legacy. Not only that, the cyan color of the skin glows in the dark, which looks mindblowing in some specific locations in the game. LED Rez is a Legendary stock skin for Alternator that can be found in the Loadout section.
1. The Galvanizer
The Galvanizer is also a default Legendary skin for Alternator that competes with LED Rez. But, it looks more eye-catching because of the popping orange color and subtle details on the skin. The Iron Sight of The Galvanizer is also very nifty that helps you while aiming. So, you can say that it is just a better version of the LED Rez.
The event and recolor skins may ultimately make their way to the store, and skins like Code Blue, Amped Up, and Haymaker may still come to the store. On the other hand, Battle pass Alternator skins are very rare to acquire.
However, Respawn has announced that battle pass skins from Season 11 and onwards may be available in an event-specific skin package in the future.
