Ex-professional CS:GO player Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek recently claimed in a stream that Counter-Strike’s long legacy can be finished with the latest CS2.
Counter-Strike is a 5v5 competitive shooter series that has aged over two decades. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the most popular title of the series, was released back in 2012. Since then, the game has gained an enormous fan base and enriched history in the e-sports scene.
After 11 years of successful run, CS2 finally replaced CS:GO. The latest title utilizes the power of the modern Source 2 engine and features many updates. New responsive volumetric smoke, sub-tick server, better lighting and environment rendering, and many more updates for the overall visual and sound experience. All these make the game on par with modern-day graphics while keeping the core mechanics of CS:GO.
Counter-Strike 2 has received mixed opinions from the community. Many of the players admired the new presentation of the series, while many still root for the classic one. But famous content creator and ex-veteran CS:GO player Shroud recently commented on the future of CS2, which might be the most controversial till now.

“Counter-Strike Had a Good Run”, Shroud
Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek is a famous content creator and well-known professional player in CS:GO. Now, he is mainly devoted to streaming and creating content on various games, mostly of the first-person shooter genre. Currently, he has over 10 million followers on Twitch, and his streams are watched over 500 million times.
During a stream on October 1, 2023, along with other famous streamers, Shroud forecasted CS2’s future. In a clip of that stream shared on Twitter, he revealed to be said about his firm belief about the Counter-Strike series’ death with CS2. Before his bold claim, he called for changes to the new smoke mechanics.
“I think this game dies. I think CS dies with 2. I firmly believe that,” Shroud said. “I think this is the end of Counter-Strike with this game. We had a good run,” he added.
CS2 has just been released. The bold claim given by the ‘‘King of Reddit” Shroud indeed represents the mixed impression of the community on the newly released title. However, the game’s current success may suggest a promising future. However, whether CS2 will carry the legacy like its predecessors or be the grave of the iconic series can only be told by time.
