Every Party Member you can recruit and play as in Metaphor: ReFantazio.
From the developers of the Persona series, Metaphor: ReFantazio is a stylish JRPG set in a fantasy world. Like the Persona series, it consists of turn-based combat where you control a party.
Moreover, like its predecessor, Metaphor: ReFantazio is filled with diverse and interesting characters with different skills, abilities, and backgrounds. You can also form bonds with your followers as well as your party members.
You will have a total of 8 party members throughout your playthrough, each of whom you’ll recruit as you progress through the main story.
Each party member has a different base Archetype, unlocking which will let you equip it to any other party member.

All Playable Party Members
Protagonist
- Tribe/Race: Elda
- Base Archetype: Seeker
The Protagonist, who can have any name you want, is a member of the Elda tribe, who have been branded as a “tainted people” by the state church.
Accompanied by the fairy Gallica, he is on a journey to lift a deadly curse placed on his childhood friend, the prince, as well as to unite the Kingdom of Euchronia under one banner.
The Protagonist’s starting Archetype is the Seeker, a versatile Archetype that can attack with Wind skills and support the party with heals and buffs.
Strohl
- Tribe/Race: Clemar
- Base Archetype: Warrior
A member of the Clemar tribe and son of a noble family from the village of Halia, Strohl seeks to restore his family’s name in Grand Trad after his village is destroyed in a human attack.
Strohl first meets the Protagonist at the Euchronian army recruitment center.
Strohl’s base Archetype is the Warrior. You can unlock it after bonding with Strohl, which happens very early on in the game. The Warrior focuses on dealing high damage using physical slash attacks to a single target.
Grius
- Tribe/Race: Rhoag
Grius is a veteran Rhoag warrior who infiltrated the state army as a spy. He helps the Protagonist and Gallica in their quest to lift the curse on the prince.
Grius was a member of the Kingsguard and was tasked with protecting the Prince. However after the Prince was attacked, he set out to work against the assailant by working as an informant.
He also has a daughter, Maria, who lives at the Hushed Honeybee Inn with the paripus Fabbiene.
Grius has no base Archetype and is a temporary playable character who leaves during the Prologue. Thus, you will not be able to form a bond with him.
Hulkenberg
- Tribe/Race: Roussainte
- Base Archetype: Knight
A noble Roussainte, Hulkenberg was a member of the Kingsguard who, along with Grius, served by the Prince’s side.
After the Prince was attacked. she set out to wander, carrying the guilt of failing to protect the Prince.
Hulkenberg joins the party on 6/10 and her primary Archetype is the Knight. The Knight serves as the tank of the party, using skills to buff defense, health, attracting enemy attacks.
Heismay
- Tribe/Race: Eugief
- Base Archetype: Thief
Heismay is a former Eugief knight and was once a part of the Shadowguard.
When you first meet him, Heismay is on the run and facing allegations of kidnapping children from Martira.
Moreover, like other members of his tribe, Heismay is often discriminated against. It is also apparent when you first meet him that Heismay has a shoddy and dark past.
Heismay joins you on 7/4 and his base Archetype is the Thief. The Thief focuses on dealing Dark magic damage and inflicting status ailments.
Moreover, Thieves can also learn abilities that steal MP and even rare items from enemies.
Junah
- Tribe/Race: Nidia
- Base Archetype: Masked Dancer
A member of the Nidia tribe and the Kingdom’s most popular songstress, and is also revealed to be Louis’s close aide.
However, she will join your party on 8/13, and if you complete the Save the Mourning Snakes side quest, you’ll unlock her base Archetype, the Masked Dancer, as well as the ability to develop a bond with her.
The Masked Dancer is a very versatile class and can target various enemy weaknesses and defend against tough opponents using items called Masks
Eupha
- Tribe/Race: Mustari
- Base Archetype: Summoner
Eupha is a highly respect and sacred priestess of the Mustari tribe, a people who are naturally skilled in magic, of whom she is said to be the most advanced.
You’ll need to complete The Trial of Malnova side quest to unlock Eupha’s primary Archetype, the Summoner, as well as the ability to increase her bonds.
The Summoner uses Vessels to summon monsters for special attacks, making it a versatile class to target enemy weaknesses
Basilio
- Tribe/Race: Paripus
- Base Archetype: Brawler
Basilio is a member of the Paripus tribe, and is one-half of the Magnus Brothers, matching his brother’s brains with his brawn.
Moreover, like Junah, both Basilio and Fideloh are also Louis’s close aides.
After progressing far enough in the story, speak to Basilio in the engine room of the Gauntlet Runner to finish recruiting him and unlocking his primary Archetype, the Berserker.
The Berserker is a highly offensive Archetype, which focuses on buffing its own attack to deal powerful strike attacks.
