One of Metaphor: ReFantazio’s major plot points is that any citizen in the Kingdom of Euchronia can become King through an “election-enforcing magic. Where the individual who earns the most trust from the people will take the throne.
This magical political contest introduces intense gameplay moments and decisions, as players must navigate both the battlefield and the hearts of the kingdom’s citizens.
Popularity Rank indicates which citizen is at the top of the race to become the new king. As the protagonist, your goal is to unite the Kingdom of Euchronia under one banner. As such, your Popularity Rank is of great significance, and it is important to win the hearts of the people of the kingdom.

What is Popularity Rank
Before his death, King Hythlodaeus V prepared a magic spell that would trigger “the royal magic” upon his passing.
During his funeral, Hythlodaeus V’s magic stirred, and lifted his castle into the sky, with the bedrock transforming itself into his face.
He announced that the spell he had cast would be undone when his soul leaves the mortal plane on 10/27, the annual holiday the “Day of the Hero”, and on that day, the candidate who has won over the most hearts of the people, i.e has the highest Popularity Rank, will become the new King of Euchronia.
This means that any citizen of the Kingdom of Euchronia can become King if they are popular enough.
The top candidates, i.e those with the highest Popularity Ranks, will have their faces displayed on the Coronation Rock present in every major town and location. You can interact with a Coronation Rock to check your current Popularity Rank.
You can also get MAG from these Coronation Rocks depending on how high your Popularity Rank is. You will have a different Popularity Rank at each location with a Coronation Rock. However, you can get the combined MAG from all locations by interacting with any Coronation Rock.
How to Increase Popularity Rank
Your Popularity will naturally increase as you play through the main story. However, there are numerous other ways you can increase your Popularity Rank.
Complete Side Quests
Firstly, you can increase your Popularity by helping out citizens through completing Side Quests and Requests. These include Bounties, Hunts, Favours, etc.
Moreover, increasing your Virtue ranks will boost your ability to complete these quests, further increasing your Popularity.
You can also boost your Popularity by progressing through your many Followers’ side quests.
The Colosseum
Participating in and winning battles in the Colosseum in Port Brielhaven will also boost your Popularity Rank.
