Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 will no longer be supported starting February 2024.
The final Dev Update video of 2023 just dropped. In it, Riot shared some stuff regarding the Future of League of Legends. They talked about Monetization and how they plan to handle it in the future. Riot also shared concept art for some of the upcoming skins. But the most important aspect of the update was regarding Riot’s support for older systems.
Starting Patch 14.4, League of Legends’ minimum System Requirements will be updated. So, older hardware will no longer meet the minimum requirements and will not be able to run the game. This update will mainly affect older Operating Systems such as Windows 7, 8, and 8.1.
Updates like this wouldn’t affect most modern games, as most don’t support such systems from the start. But League of Legends is a pretty old game, and it still retains its older player base. Many of these older players still use older systems. Additionally, most of the Eastern League player base uses PC cafes to play the game, and some of them have pretty outdated systems.

Although the change will negatively affect many players around the world, it’s still a change in the right direction.
Updating the system requirement is necessary for further improvement of League of Legends. Older Operating Systems also don’t have the necessary security measures in place, which can be exploited by hackers.
In addition, supporting older systems can be time-consuming for developers. By focusing on newer systems, Riot can allocate its resources to newer stuff, such as new Game Modes. Riot might even use the time to fix the League Client.
So, with less than two months remaining before the changes, it might finally be the time to upgrade to a newer system.
