For years, PlayStation fans have dreamt of a Bloodborne remake that brings the haunting gothic world of Yharnam to modern consoles. That possibility seemed tangible when acclaimed remake studio Bluepoint Games pitched a Bloodborne remake in early 2025. What followed, however, upended expectations and brought the future of the beloved action RPG into question.
Bluepoint Games and Its Pitch for the Next Big Remake
Bluepoint Games built its reputation on outstanding remakes and remasters. Known for projects such as Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, the studio had become one of Sony’s go-to developers when revitalising classic titles. Sony acquired Bluepoint in 2021, and the partnership raised hopes that Bloodborne could finally get the remake so many players wanted.
After the cancellation of a live-service God of War project in early 2025, Bluepoint pitched a Bloodborne remake internally. According to industry reporting, Sony’s leadership was receptive to the idea and saw commercial promise in reviving the gothic cult favourite on a new generation of hardware.
FromSoftware’s Role in the Rejection
Despite support from Sony’s business side, the remake did not move forward. Multiple reports indicate that the original developer of Bloodborne, FromSoftware, was not on board with Bluepoint’s pitch and effectively blocked the project. Even though Sony owns the Bloodborne franchise, people familiar with the situation say FromSoftware’s opposition was decisive.
Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida speculated in 2025 that Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki personally wants to revisit the title himself someday and prefers that no other team handles such a passion project. That theory seems to align with the recent rejection and fans’ continued frustration with the lack of a remake announcement.
The rejection of the Bloodborne remake pitch was just one factor in a larger, troubling period for Bluepoint. The studio struggled to land a new project after its live-service game was cancelled, and additional pitches, including an updated Shadow of the Colossus and other spin-off ideas, did not gain traction. Without a greenlit game, Bluepoint went more than a year without a major project before Sony announced its closure in February 2026, affecting about 70 staff.
Bloodborne Remake’s Fate is in Peril
With Bluepoint gone and FromSoftware seemingly not ready to hand Bloodborne to another developer, the path to any official remake or remaster has grown even murkier. Fans around the world remain hopeful that the beloved action RPG might one day receive a modern treatment, but for now, the project remains unrealised.
The news that Bloodborne’s remake may not pass through Bluepoint’s doors adds nuance to the narrative around the studio’s closure. While many initially blamed Sony alone, the decision underscores how IP holders like FromSoftware can influence where and how their creations are revisited. Bloodborne’s legacy as one of the most influential action RPGs of the PlayStation 4 era only fuels continued community interest in seeing it reborn on newer platforms.
As the gaming industry evolves and classics from the past gain renewed attention, Bloodborne’s fate remains a topic of passionate discussion among players and developers alike. Whether the franchise will ever receive an official remake under FromSoftware’s own guidance or through another trusted partner is still an open question.
