Players have been questioning Riot Games regarding Yuumi’s balance issue since her release and they have finally opened up about Yuumi on today’s dev post.
Ever since her release on patch 9.10, Yuumi gradually became one of the most hated champions in League of Legends. Most of the players were frustrated because of how easy she is to play and how annoying she can become at the same time.
On the previous patch 10.12, the magical cat had around 80% ban rate across all major regions besides Korea and Japan. Players were hating her so much that some of them were calling her the biggest mistake Riot has ever made and Riot should just delete her from the game.
And today, on the latest blog, Riot’s dev team has responded to some of the criticism. They started up by saying that they think it’s a misconception of players thinking Yuumi as a “braindead” champion.
Answering the question on why should Yuumi even exists, they said, “To be direct, we believe Yuumi fills a unique role in the champion roster—both in playstyle and thematic—and there is clear data showing that a lot of people enjoy playing Yuumi.”
“We agree that Yuumi hasn’t been fair to play against,” Riot’s dev team added. “But this doesn’t mean Yuumi shouldn’t exist—it just means we have to get more creative to ensure she does have adequate avenues for counterplay.”
Due to her unique kit that makes her untargetable whenever she is attached to any of her allies with an insane amount of healing and ult zoning capability, many players think she is still strong even after the patch 10.13 nerf. Although she currently has one of the lowest win rates in League of Legends patch 10.13.
But even Riot said “we don’t think Yuumi has been in a state that’s balanced” but they also think she is not in good stats as well. And the main reason for the patch 10.13 nerf was to make players utilize her passive more effectively now.
In order to balance her out, Riot is currently working on to ensure that she has sufficient counterplay moments in the upcoming patches.
