The fan-favorite co-op heist-based shooter Payday is back. Will Payday 3 feature controversial microtransactions? Let’s find out.

Payday 3, the third entry in the popular cooperative heist simulator shooter franchise, is getting closer to its full release. Developer Starbreeze Studios announced the game would be released on September 21, 2023. Currently, the game is available as an early access in Steam.

Payday 3 is a much-awaited sequel to its predecessor. The third version is finally here after a decade of Payday 2. The game is enough to make old fans nostalgic as it brings back the gang from the original Payday: The Heist (Dallas, Chains, Wolf, and Hoxton). This time, the gang is headed towards New York, planning new and thrilling heists.

Despite bringing back the original vibe, Payday 3 also comes with some controversial features – like the inclusion of microtransactions.

Microtransactions in Payday 3

Microtransactions are pretty mainstream in live service games nowadays. Starbreeze Studios has also declared that it will introduce microtransactions in Payday 3. Previously, the developers announced a significant update to include a real-life currency system for its predecessor, Payday 2. The decision faced massive backlash from the community, making the developers quit the idea.

But microtransactions are confirmed in Payday 3. In the game’s official site faq, it is listed that,

“Yes, you can buy PAYDAY Credits separately, however these are only for purchasing additional cosmetic items. These will not affect the gameplay. The PAYDAY Credits will be added post launch. “

So, Payday 3 is confirmed to have real-life money transactions. Though it is not currently available in-game, it will be added with a later patch. However, the developers claimed it would only include cosmetic items and not affect gameplay.
