Respawn finally revealed all the changes that are coming with the upcoming Chaos Theory Collection event in Apex Legends.
It’s only been a few days since we had the anniversary collection event in the game. Now, Respawn has revealed a new LTM, a town takeover event, a new heirloom, and massive changes to the legend and weapon meta in the game.
As with every mid-seasonal update like this one, Respawn usually likes to throw in some curveballs. And as it turns out, they actually made some decent changes to the overall weapon meta in the game. Right now, Mastiff is really effective in the game. Consequently, Respawn thought it was time for a nerf.
Surprisingly, this time Respawn gave Wingman a buff by increasing the overall bullet count throughout every magazine size. On top of that, all gold AR and LMG’s default optics will be updated to 2x Bruiser. Also, Hemlok received a small nerf.

Weapon Updates in Chaos Theory Event
Weapon Optics
- All gold AR and LMG default optics have been updated to 2x Bruiser.
Mastiff
- Pellet damage decreased from 13 → 11. The fire rate increased from 1.0 → 1.1.
Dev Note: The goal of these changes is to place this weapon’s identity between the fast-fire EVA-8 and the heavy-hitting Peacekeeper. The Mastiff has consistently been dominant in close-quarters combat, given its forgiving spread pattern and high damage spikes with each shot. This change reduces that high damage potential in order to limit the amount of two pumps players experience on the receiving end.
Wingman
- +1 bullet to every magazine size, including the base.
Hemlok
- Increased hip-fire spread.
Dev Note: The burst damage from the Hemlok’s hip-fire was feeling a little too consistent for an AR that should excel at medium range. This change mitigates the Hemlok’s close-quarters damage spikes that felt bad on the receiving end.

Respawn really decided to nerf the Mastiff down to the earth. Mastiff has been an A-tier weapon for a long time now. Following this update, that may no longer be the case. Also, Wingman’s buff was quite surprising, to say the least.
