Apex Legends Season 29 is officially called Overclocked, and Respawn is not exactly being subtle with the theme this time. The whole season is built around speed, pressure, momentum, and keeping squads in the fight longer than before. Between a brand-new Legend, Deathbox Respawns, Chain Healing, Legend updates, and a fresh Battle Pass, Overclocked looks like one of the more aggressive Apex seasons in recent memory.
Respawn confirmed that Overclocked introduces Axle as the new Legend, Deathbox Respawns as a new comeback mechanic, Chain Healing as a quality-of-life change, and updates for Conduit and Vantage. The Overclocked Battle Pass Split 1 will feature new Legendary skins for Conduit and Crypto, a Reactive RE-45 skin, and more.
Apex Legends Season 29 Overclocked Is Built Around Speed
Overclocked is all about playing faster. Respawn describes the new season as a high-risk, high-reward meta where players are pushed to move quickly, take fights, and keep momentum instead of slowing the match down. That is not just marketing either. Almost every major feature shown so far supports that direction.
Axle is a movement-heavy Skirmisher, Deathbox Respawns reduce the downtime after winning a messy fight, Chain Healing makes recovery smoother, and Conduit and Vantage are both being pushed toward more active playstyles. Respawn also says a Major Ranked Update is planned for Season 32, so Overclocked seems to be part of a broader long-term push to reshape Apex across multiple seasons.
New Legend Axle Joins Apex Legends
The biggest headline of Season 29 is Axle, Apex Legendsโ newest Skirmisher. Her real name is Isa Wegner, she is 28 years old, and she comes from Salvo. According to Respawn, Axle grew up around Salvoโs underground battle races and eventually earned her way into the Apex Games after being noticed by Kuben Blisk.
Gameplay-wise, Axle is designed as a combat racer. Her Passive Ability is Drift, which gives her increased control while sliding. Her Tactical Ability, Nitro Gate, deploys a speed gate that sends users into a boosted slide. Her Ultimate Ability, Kickstart, deploys an enemy-seeking drone that displaces targets on impact.
On paper, Axle sounds like a Legend built for players who already love aggressive rotations and movement-heavy fights. She is not just about escaping danger. Her kit looks made for forcing awkward angles, disrupting enemies behind cover, and giving her squad a way to keep up with her pace.
Deathbox Respawns Change How Comebacks Work
Deathbox Respawns may be the most important gameplay change in Apex Legends Season 29. Respawn confirmed that players can now revive squadmates directly from their Deathboxes, meaning teams no longer always need to grab banners and run to a Respawn Beacon after surviving a tough fight.
In older seasons, winning a fight while losing one or two teammates could still leave your squad in a terrible position. You had to recover banners, find a beacon, survive the rotation, and then somehow get your revived teammate looted again. Deathbox Respawns reduce that downtime and reward teams that actually clear the area.
Respawn is not making it free, though. The studio says Deathbox Respawns are slow, noisy, and visible to nearby enemies. Repeated deaths also add an increasing Lockout Time penalty that temporarily disables the mechanic.
Chain Healing Makes Recovery Smoother
Another big quality-of-life change in Overclocked is Chain Healing. Respawn confirmed that players can now queue another healing item while their current heal is already in progress. Once the first heal finishes, the next one can start automatically, depending on the selected setting.
There are three Chain Healing options in the settings: Off, Single, and Auto. Off keeps healing the same as before. Single lets players queue one extra heal and is the new default. Auto keeps queuing the same healing item as long as the player has enough resources and the relevant health pool is not full.
This might sound small, but Apex players know how often healing rhythm decides fights. Chain Healing should make resets feel less clunky, especially after chaotic squad wipes or during late-game poking. It does not make players safer by itself, but it does reduce the amount of menu and input friction during recovery.
Conduit Gets a Much-Needed Boost
Conduit is one of the Legends getting attention in Overclocked. Respawn says she gains an extra Tactical charge and greater mobility, with changes aimed at making her a more dynamic pick among Support Legends.
Her core identity has always been about helping teammates stay alive through shields and pressure, but in a faster meta, Support Legends cannot afford to feel too passive. Giving her more room to make plays should make her more attractive for teams that want survivability without giving up tempo.
If Overclocked really does push Apex toward faster fights, Conduit could become a much better fit than she was in slower metas. Her value may come from helping aggressive teammates survive bad trades and immediately re-enter fights.
Vantage Receives Better Optics and Mobility
Vantage is also getting buffed in Season 29. Respawn says her passive is getting an added Ultimate boost, her Tactical is being adjusted to keep her agile in close-range engagements, and her Ultimate now has improved handling and a new 2x optic. Also, she is getting improved optics, a 2x canted sight, faster repositioning, and more.
She has always had strong information and poke potential, but she could feel awkward when fights moved too quickly. Better close-range flexibility and improved Ultimate handling should make her less one-dimensional.
The 2x canted sight could be especially interesting because it gives her more room to use Sniperโs Mark outside of long-range situations. If it feels smooth in actual gameplay, Vantage players may finally have more confidence using her Ultimate during mid-range and close-range pressure.
What About Nerfs in Season 29?
Respawn has not published the full Overclocked patch notes at the time of writing. The official Overclocked update article confirms that Designerโs Notes are scheduled for May 1, 2026, while full Patch Notes are scheduled for May 4. That means the complete list of buffs, nerfs, weapon tuning, and system adjustments is still not fully available through official channels yet.
Overclocked Battle Pass Split 1 Rewards
Apex Legends Season 29 also brings the Overclocked Battle Pass Split 1. Respawn confirmed that players can earn new prototype Legendary skins for Conduit and Crypto, a Reactive RE-45 skin, and more.

Conduit is receiving major gameplay attention, Crypto gets a fresh Legendary cosmetic, and the RE-45 gets the Reactive skin treatment.
Apex Legends Overclocked Also Points Toward the Future
One detail that should not be ignored is Respawnโs updated roadmap messaging. In the Overclocked update article, Respawn says a Major Ranked Update is now planned for Season 32. The team says Ranked remains an important part of the Apex journey and that Season 32 will bring a new look and feel for the mode.

It looks like one piece of a longer rebuild for Apex Legends in 2026. Overclocked brings faster gameplay and new recovery systems now, while bigger competitive changes are being lined up for later.
Apex Legends Season 29 Overclocked looks like Respawnโs attempt to inject more speed and momentum into the game. Axle is the obvious star of the season, but Deathbox Respawns might end up being the change that players feel the most in every match.
The new season seems built for squads that want to fight, recover quickly, and keep moving. Conduit and Vantage buffs also fit that direction, while Chain Healing should make resets feel smoother without completely removing risk.
There are still some unanswered questions, especially around the full list of nerfs and weapon balance changes. But based on what Respawn has officially revealed so far, Overclocked is shaping up to be one of Apex Legendsโ most tempo-focused seasons yet.
