VALORANT Champions is Riot Games’ most prestigious tournament for its esports title. The best teams from all over the world go against each other in this tournament to earn the title of VALORANT World Champion. Teams have gone through never-ending battles to reach this pinnacle of VALORANT to take away the title from 15 other teams throughout the world.

This year’s VALORANT Champions will be held in Los Angeles, California, where hundreds of thousands of eyes will shine on one trophy and cheer for their favorite teams. Last year, the Brazilian esports organization LOUD won the VALORANT Championship title. It’ll be exciting to see which team gets to take the title this year.

Qualified Teams

Except for EMEA, the top three teams from each international league have qualified for the VALORANT 2023 Champions. That means DRX, Paper Rex, T1, LOUD, NRG, and Evil Geniuses will go to Los Angeles from these two international leagues. KRÜ Esports and Zeta Division, on the other hand, have forced their way into the Champions through the Americas and Pacific LCQs.

EMEA’s top three spots were determined by the VALORANT 2023 Masters’ result. Due to Fnatic’s victory, EMEA received 5 total slots instead of 4. So, in addition to Fnatic, Team Liquid, and FUT EsportsGiants and NaVi will also join the VCT 2023 Champions’ stage. On the other hand, Bilibili Gaming, EDward Gaming, and FunPlus Phoenix have advanced to VALORANT 2023 Champions through the China qualifier.

Tournament Format

VALORANT Champions will follow a GSL format and a Double Elimination Bracket. All matches will be best of 3, except for the lower and grand finals, which will follow best of 5 formats.

Group Stage: What is GSL Format?

If you don’t know what the GSL format means, there will be 4 randomly selected teams within 4 groups. 2 sets of opening matches will be held within the groups. The two winning teams from each group will advance to the next stage within the group. The undisputed seed from the group will automatically advance to the next stage.

Here are the respective teams within the groups:

  • Group A – Paper Rex, KRÜ Esports, Edward Gaming, Giants
  • Group B – Evil Geniuses, FunPlus Phoenix, FUT Esports, T1
  • Group C – Fnatic, Zeta Division, NRG, BilliBilli Gaming
  • Group D – Team Liquid, NaVi, DRX, LOUD

The losing teams will fight against each other in the lower bracket within the groups. The winner from the losers bracket will go to the next stage, where the team will fight against the stage two losing team. The hard-fought winning team will also go to the next Playoffs stage along with the undisputed group seed.

Bracket Stage: Double Elimination Bracket

After that, the 8 seeds from 4 groups will be placed randomly in a double-elimination Playoffs bracket. However, teams from the same group will be placed on the opposite side of the brackets. Teams will fight against each other until a single team remains, who will be titled the VALORANT 2023 World Champion.

The VALORANT 2023 Champions will start on August 6, 2023, and run until August 26, 2023. The Group stage will be held for 8 days: August 6 – August 13. The bracket stage or playoffs will start on August 16 and end on August 20.

The Lower Semifinal, Upper Final, and Lower Final teams will go against each other on August 24 and 25. And finally, on August 26, the long-awaited Grand Finals of the VALORANT Champions will be held, where two of the best teams in the world will go against each other in a best-of-5 format to snatch the title.
