During the first few missions, you will be introduced to several mechanics, like docking a ship or persuading enemies. One such feature is lockpicking the safes and doors in Starfield.
These doors cannot be opened typically; the players must use Digipicks and must play a small puzzle-like sequence before accessing these safes. Let’s find out what we can do about it!
Lockpicking Kreet Research Lab Safe
During the intro mission “A Small Step,” you will get your first experience with the lockpicking mechanic.
The mission starts in a Berrylium mine, followed by some incidents. You will have to create your character, meet Barrett, and set out on an adventure towards the Constellation. On your way to The New Atlantis, you will be tasked with taking care of the Crimson Crew Pirate captain named Brogan, who is on Kreet
Travel to Kreet and land at the Kreet Research Lab landing site. You’ll have to take on several Crimson Crew enemies before entering the research room. The robot companion, Vasco, will advise looking in a safe nearby. However, the safe will be locked.
To open the safe, you’ll need some Digipicks, an item you need to lockpick in Starfield. You must find four Digipicks to open the Kreet Research Lab safe.
You can find some Digipicks on the bodies of the researchers (3 to be exact) and some more Digipicks on the enemy bodies you killed on your way.
These can be hard to see in the dark. Keep your eyes open and search carefully around you. There will be plenty of Digipicks lying around.
To open the safe, you must align the Digipick’s point with the lock’s gap. Keep trying to align the Digipick that might fit inside by rotating it with A or D, and eventually, you will complete all four layers that must be unlocked to open the safe.
You need to line up each point of the Digipick with the gaps. The lock patterns are randomized on each attempt, so there is no fixed solution.
This can be confusing the first time you do it, but you will slowly understand it as you try to match the Digipick combination with the lock holes on your screen.
