Riot addresses the Duo Lane EXP changes in preseason 2023.

With season 12 ending in less than two months, Riot Games has officially announced most of the changes for Preseason 2023.

In their latest post, Riot Games revealed the patch notes for Preseason 2023. And according to the post, the preseason will include many new changes. This year’s preseason changes will consist of massive Jungle changes, the return of Chemtech Drake, new communication options, Top Lane changes, new Items, and Vision System Updates.

Within the Top Lane Changes section of the post, Riot shared EXP adjustments for the Top, Mid, and Duo lanes. These changes are meant to enchant the advantages teams can get through the Top lane and keep the other lanes in a good spot.

Although the EXP changes for the Top and Mid lanes were well received, the Duo lane EXP changes received some backlash. Because at first glance, the Duo lane EXP changes seem to be a big nerf to bot lane EXP, but it turns out that Duo lane EXP calculation is quite different.

So, Riot Captain Gameplay posted a clarification on Twitter for the misunderstanding.

New Duo Lane EXP

According to the Preseason 2023 post, Duo lanes will receive a 22% bonus experience multiplier (previously 24.73%) from minions.

This, at a glance, seems like a straight-up nerf to Duo lane EXP. But as Riot Captain Gameplay points out, Shared EXP multiplies solo EXP. And Riot this preseason will also increase the Solo exp multiplier from 93% to 95%.

So the math for the EXP multipliers would be,

Old: 0.93 x 1.2473 = 1.159989

New: 0.95 x 1.22 = 1.159

The EXP changes are pretty negligible and will not affect Bot lane in any way.
