Riot just announced some massive changes to the Surrender system.
With League of Legends Preseason 2023 right around the corner, Riot is making some quality-of-life changes to the game, one of which is the new Surrender Rework.
Since its introduction, the surrender vote system has been one of the most frustrating systems in League of Legends. It had been introduced as a quick way to escape one-sided games and reduce player frustration, but due to some significant flaws in its implementation, it has become a source of bitterness for some players. Although Riot introduced the remake system later down the line to combat some issues, it wasn’t enough.
So, Riot is planning some significant changes to the surrender system in preparation for Preseason 2023.
Riot Auberaun recently announced the new Surrender vote rework on his Twitter page.

Surrender System Rework
Here are all the changes intended to ship with the surrender system rework.
- Early surrender time for AFKs is being reduced from 10 minutes to 3:30 minutes.
Currently, players are required to wait 10 mins to surrender early if a teammate disconnects or AFKs. But with the new changes, players can surrender early after the remake window has elapsed.
On top of this change, Patch 12.21 changed how the remake vote functions. Riot moved the vote start time from three minutes to one minute and thirty seconds and increased the window to start a remake from 30 seconds to 90.
The new changes combined with Patch 12.21 remake changes will help reduce player frustration and might even lessen League’s toxicity problem.
Release Date
The Surrender System Rework is currently out on PBE (Public Beta Environment) servers for testing. It will come out on League of Legends live servers on patch 12.22, released on Wednesday, Nov 16, 2022.
