Shaco can be a real pain to deal with in League of Legends if you can’t tell him apart from his clone.
League of Legends currently has 159 champions, with the latest one being Renata Glasc. Every champion is different in their abilities, but some of the champions can be very frustrating to deal with, and Shaco is undoubtedly one of them.
Shaco has a unique kit that lets him go invisible, kill squishy champions in a blink of an eye and escape while you chase down his clone. Shaco’s ultimate ability, ‘Hallucinate,’ lets him create a clone of himself that looks the same as the real Shaco to the opponent. Good Shaco players will manage the clone’s movement in such a way that it is tough to distinguish between them.

So you need to know some tips that can help you identify the real Shaco from the fake one. Riot intended that players should not be able to tell the difference between the real Shaco and the clone. It is the same for all champions with clones like Leblanc and Neeko.
Shaco, the Demon Jester
According to League of Legends ‘Lore’, Shaco, the Demon Jester, was created as a simple toy for a prince to play with. But dark magic corrupted the puppet, and now he only finds pleasure in the misery of the poor souls he torments. And for those who hear a dark chuckle in the dead of the night, the Demon Jester may have marked them as his next plaything.

What is Shaco’s Clone in League of Legends
Shaco creates a clone of himself that lasts for 18 seconds when he uses his ultimate ‘Hallucinate.’ The player can move the clone by holding down the ‘ALT’ key. So Shaco and his clone can be controlled simultaneously and create confusion. But only the real Shaco can use abilities; the clone will not mimic them and can only auto-attack.
How to Identify the Real Shaco in League of Legends
The Clone Takes More Damage
Shaco’s clone takes 50% more damage from enemies, which is quite significant. So you can auto-attack each Shaco and check which one takes less damage.
The Clone does not have Mythic Item Border
If you check both the Shaco’s items, you will see a border on the mythic item on the real Shaco. The clone will have the same items but will not have the border. This may be fixed by Riot in the future.
The Clone does not Show Visual Effect of Items
Some League items have visual effects. Whether Shaco is going AD or AP, they usually build ‘Lich Bane’ or ‘Essence Reaver’ where both of these items have the ‘Sheen’ component. With these items, Shaco’s auto attacks deal extra damage after using an ability. To make it easier for the players to understand, when an enemy deals extra damage with their auto-attacks, these items show a glowing visual effect around the user’s hands. So if a Shaco with one of these items uses their ultimate, you can see a glow around the hands of the real Shaco, and the clone does not copy these visual effects.
Use Target Ping
If you press G and left-click on champions or turrets, it shows up as a target ping. It has a red visual effect that will stay on the champion for a couple of seconds. So when you are fighting a Shaco who has their ultimate available, target ping him. If Shaco uses his ultimate ability after you ping him, the real one will show the visual effect, but the clone will not. This can also be patched by Riot at some point.
