Overwatchโ€™s May 12, 2026, retail patch is here, and it is a pretty important one for players following the Reign of Talon Season 2 midseason meta. Blizzard released the patch notes early and confirmed that the update would launch later that day at 11 AM PT, with the most up-to-date version available on the official Overwatch patch notes page.

This new patch brings the 10th Anniversary event, progression changes, hero balance updates, Stadium adjustments, website updates, and several bug fixes.

Overwatch 10th Anniversary Event Is Now Live

The May 12 patch kicks off Overwatchโ€™s 10th Anniversary celebration, running from May 12 to June 1. During the event, players can complete challenges to earn Anniversary Lootboxes filled with new and nostalgic cosmetics. Blizzard also added a Global Community Progress Bar, where completed challenges help upgrade weekly community rewards.

The anniversary event also brings back special Arcade cards across three weeks. Week 1 features Overwatch Classic 2016, Week 2 brings Mystery Showdown, and Week 3 features Overwatch Classic 2020. Junkratโ€™s Loot Hunt is also scheduled to return from June 5 to June 8, giving players another chance to earn loot boxes through challenges.

General Updates in the May 12 Overwatch Patch

Blizzard has made hero progression faster across the board, meaning all heroes should now level up more quickly.

The update also changes the default settings for teammate and enemy elimination sound cues to โ€œOn.โ€ On top of that, Blizzard added a new โ€œSwap Reloadsโ€ keyword to the Advanced Info Panel, which explains when a heroโ€™s weapon fully reloads after using another weapon, alternate mode, or transformation.

UI Updates for Ramattra and Brigitte

Ramattra and Brigitte are getting small but useful UI improvements in this update. Ramattraโ€™s Void Barrier cooldown is now visible while Nemesis Form is active, which should make it easier to track his defensive options during fights.

Brigitte also gets a new custom UI element for Inspire. It now shows how many allies are currently being healed by Inspire, and players can toggle this feature through Brigitteโ€™s Hero Options.

All Tank Buffs and Nerfs in Overwatch May 12 Patch

The Tank changes are focused on reducing D.Vaโ€™s burst potential, improving Junker Queenโ€™s sustain in 5v5, and making the Initiator subrole feel more deliberate. Doomfist also gets animation and feedback improvements rather than a direct balance shift.

Hero / RoleAbilityChange TypeChange
Initiator SubrolePassiveNerf / AdjustmentNo longer triggers while airborne. Now triggers from specified movement abilities such as Winstonโ€™s Jump Pack, D.Vaโ€™s Boosters, Hazardโ€™s Violent Lunge, Wrecking Ballโ€™s Grappling Claw, and Doomfistโ€™s Rocket Punch. Heal amount reduced from 60 to 50.
DoomfistSeismic SlamQuality-of-LifeCamera lock and shockwave effects now trigger later to better match the animation.
DoomfistEmpowered PunchQuality-of-LifeAdded new visual and sound effects when Empowered Punch is about to time out.
D.VaMicro MissilesNerfImpact damage reduced from 3 to 2.
Junker QueenAdrenaline RushBuffWound damage self-healing multiplier in 5v5 increased from 2.25x to 2.5x.

D.Vaโ€™s nerf is aimed at reducing how easily she can burst down lower-health targets with Micro Missiles. Junker Queen, meanwhile, should feel a little stronger in extended fights, especially when she is successfully applying Wounds and staying aggressive.

Blizzard says the Initiator change is meant to stop the passive from triggering too casually while airborne and make it more tied to intentional movement ability usage.

All Damage Hero Buffs and Nerfs in Overwatch May 12 Patch

The Damage role gets a mix of buffs and nerfs. Emre and Pharah are being toned down, while Freja is getting more mobility and a stronger reward for securing final blows.

HeroAbilityChange TypeChange
EmreSiphon BlasterNerfHealing conversion reduced from 80% to 60%.
EmreCyber FragNerfExplosion damage minimum radius reduced from 2 meters to 1.5 meters.
FrejaUpdraftBuffCooldown reduced from 12 seconds to 10 seconds.
FrejaRising WindsBuffMajor Perk no longer reduces the height gained.
FrejaBounty HuntingBuffBonus Ultimate charge increased from 25% to 33%.
PharahConcussive ForceNerfMinor Perk damage reduced from 50 to 30.
PharahRocket SalvoNerfMajor Perk damage per rocket reduced from 40 to 30.

Emreโ€™s nerfs are aimed at lowering his sustain while still keeping his close-range pressure intact. His Cyber Frag also now requires more precision to get full value. Freja looks like one of the bigger winners of this patch, with better mobility from Updraft and Rising Winds, plus faster ultimate generation through Bounty Hunting.

Pharahโ€™s nerfs are more direct. Blizzard says her damage-focused perks had pushed her burst potential too high, so both Concussive Force and Rocket Salvo are being reduced.

All Support Buffs and Nerfs in Overwatch May 12 Patch

Support heroes received some of the biggest changes in this update. Baptiste and Mercy are getting noticeable buffs, while Illari, Kiriko, Lucio, and Mizuki are being toned down in specific areas.

HeroAbilityChange TypeChange
BaptisteRegenerative BurstBuffInstant healing increased from 40 to 50. Healing over time increased from 40 to 50. Cooldown reduced from 14 seconds to 12 seconds.

LucioSound BarrierNerfOverhealth reduced from 750 to 625. Duration reduced from 6 seconds to 5 seconds.
MercyGuardian AngelBuffLaunch speed increased by 10%, reverting it to its previous value.
MercyDivine MomentumNerf / RemovedMinor Perk removed.
MercyWinged ReachNew PerkNew Minor Perk added. Guardian Angelโ€™s range is increased by 30%.
MizukiKekkai SanctuaryMixedNow absorbs enemy projectiles entering and exiting. Healing over time reduced from 50 to 40. Duration reduced from 7 seconds to 6 seconds.

Baptiste gets a straightforward survivability and team sustain buff, which should make Regenerative Burst feel more reliable in active fights. Mercy also gets part of her core movement feel restored, with Guardian Angelโ€™s launch speed returning to its previous value. However, Blizzard also removed Divine Momentum to deal with the extreme mobility cases that caused the earlier reduction.

Kirikoโ€™s Protection Suzu loses its extra cleanse healing, which should reduce her burst save potential. Lucioโ€™s Sound Barrier is also being pulled back, with lower overhealth and a shorter duration. Mizukiโ€™s Kekkai Sanctuary is more of a tradeoff. It now absorbs projectiles in both directions, but its healing and duration have been reduced to balance the added defensive value.

Mystery Heroes Gets Perks Back

Mystery Heroes players are also getting a notable change in this patch. Blizzard has added Perks back to Mystery Heroes, bringing that layer of hero customization back into the mode.

Major Stadium Updates in the May 12 Patch

Stadium mode gets a large batch of changes in this update. The automatic match end timer after a leaver has been increased to 3 minutes so it can cover the armory timer. Several Stadium heroes also received targeted adjustments.

Doomfist gets multiple Stadium buffs, including stronger scaling for The Best Defense, a shorter Asteroid Smash cooldown, better healing from Block Party, more overhealth scaling from Helping Hand, increased Level 3 Punch bonus damage from Overpowered, and higher bonus damage from Rising Uppercut.

Reinhardtโ€™s To Me, My Friends power is being nerfed, with barrier healing per second reduced from 5% of max life to 3%. Blizzard says the power was overperforming due to how consistent and easy it was to use.

Frejaโ€™s Stadium changes reduce her currency from healing and damage by 5%, while also making her Volley ร  Deux extra bolts less consistent and lowering Foragerโ€™s max life healing. Reaper gets a mini rework built around stronger anti-air options, including a reworked Backstabber power, a new Trigger Finger power, and the removal of Vampiric Touch.

Soldier: 76โ€™s Frontliners interaction with Hunker Down is being limited, while Vendetta gets a 5% increase to currency from healing and damage after recent core nerfs caused her to underperform in Stadium.

Jetpack Cat Gets a Big Stadium Expansion

Jetpack Cat is getting a massive Stadium update with several new powers and items. New or changed powers include Lindholm Inspiration, Purr-sistence, Territorial, Battle Fur-mation, Bell Bomb, Tow Beans, Frenzy, Tomcat Reserves, Zoomies, Ambidex-fur-ous, Bouncing Biscuits, and Scratch-ageddon.

Jetpack Cat also gets multiple new Stadium items, including Toxmoplasmosis, Recycling Rounds, Tether Speed, Purr-imeter Expander, Big Boop, Tether Toughness, and Fuel Pod. Blizzardโ€™s developer comment for this section is simply โ€œCat,โ€ which feels very on brand for the hero.

Website Updates Add Hero Ban Rates

Blizzard has also updated the Overwatch website. Hero Stats are now found under Heroes and then Hero Stats, while Hero Ban Rates are now displayed alongside existing Hero Pick Rates and Win Rates. The existing Heroes page has also been renamed to Hero Gallery.

Bug Fixes in Overwatch May 12 Patch

The May 12 update also includes several bug fixes across the general game and Stadium. Blizzard fixed issues involving Mizukiโ€™s soft targeting, Doomfistโ€™s Seismic Slam desync, armor damage reduction applying twice to Wuyangโ€™s orbs, competitive post-match buttons being incorrectly disabled, and Vendetta not getting kill credit when forcing enemies into pits.

Stadium fixes include several Ramattra-related bugs, a Cybervenom healing reduction issue with Junoโ€™s Medimaster, Mercyโ€™s Flash Heal not triggering On Ability items, and Zenyattaโ€™s Enlightenment healing even while anti-healed.

Biggest Winners in the Overwatch May 12 Patch

Baptiste, Freja, Mercy, Junker Queen, and Stadium Doomfist look like the biggest winners from this update. Baptiste gets more healing and a shorter Regenerative Burst cooldown, while Freja receives several buffs that improve mobility and ultimate generation.

Mercy players should immediately feel the Guardian Angel launch speed revert, even though Divine Momentum has been removed. Junker Queen also gets a meaningful sustain buff in 5v5, which should help her survive longer during aggressive brawls.

Biggest Nerfs in the Overwatch May 12 Patch

D.Va, Emre, Pharah, Kiriko, Lucio, and Illari take the biggest hits in this patch. D.Vaโ€™s Micro Missiles lose impact damage, Emre loses a chunk of healing conversion, and Pharahโ€™s perk-based burst damage has been reduced.

Kirikoโ€™s Suzu loses its extra cleanse healing, which is a major change for one of the strongest defensive abilities in the game. Lucioโ€™s Sound Barrier also gets a sizeable nerf, with both lower overhealth and a shorter duration.
