Riot might be delaying LoL champions releases and updates due to the recent layoffs of 530 employees.

League of Legends is known for coming up with innovative champion designs. All the 168 champions (including Smolder) offer something new in terms of champion design.

As a decade-old game, many of the older champions’ designs have started to show their age. That’s why Riot is aggressively updating them in the form of VGU, ASU, and CGU. Riot admittedly is a company that excels at crafting new designs and not overhauling the existing ones. This is why we have seen, in the game’s history, more new releases than champion updates.

However, Riot has become more active in the champion update department too. This was mainly because they had more people in the updates team now. In this year, Riot has promised multiple champion updates. That includes Skarner VGU, Lee Sin, and Teemo ASU. Arcane VGU (lore skin updates) and other new champions are supposed to be released as well.

But very recently, Riot has laid off 530 employees. One of the primary reasons was high administrative and operational costs. Riot Games has been doing a lot of things all at once. For example, releasing lore-focused single-player games under Riot Forge, creating new game modes, polishing the existing ones, focusing on higher quality skin releases, etc.

The cost increased exponentially as a result, choking them out from experimenting with their core business. Due to this event, many Lol players are afraid that Riot might be delaying or even canceling some of the decisions they had announced earlier, especially concerning the champion release and update timelines.

In this article, you will see what Riot has replied to such questions.

Riot Potentially Delaying LoL Champions Releases and Updates

Riot Lexical, on Twitter, has posted recently that seems to tacitly indicate the delaying of new Lol champion releases and updates

She has informed in her post that Riot is still in the process of figuring out what they can afford to work on in the given timeline. You might wonder why they are so concerned about figuring out. Don’t they have enough resources to make things happen in due time?

That’s where the recent lay-off of employees comes into play. 530 is a huge number for a game-developing company. Not to mention, Riot had to let go of many employees who, in the past, were responsible for some of the best champion lore designs.

That’s why it is kind of deductible that Riot might be delaying some of the champion release and updates, and derail from their initially planned timelines.

When will Riot update on the Champion Roadmap?

In response to a user’s query, that referred to a rumor stating that the next champion roadmap is coming next Monday, Lexi dismissed the information. She also confirmed that the announced items will be coming but the cloud of ambiguity is regarding the shift in timelines, which they are still working on.
