Embark Studios has made a major technical change to ARC Raiders, upgrading the game from Unreal Engine 5.3 to Unreal Engine 5.7 with the release of Live Update 1.45.0.

While the engine upgrade was only given a single line under the performance section of Embark’s official patch notes, the jump covers several generations of Unreal Engine improvements and could have a significant impact on how ARC Raiders performs going forward. The same update also addresses multiple crashes, although Embark has not explicitly attributed every stability fix to Unreal Engine 5.7.

In brief:

  • ARC Raiders has officially moved from Unreal Engine 5.3 to Unreal Engine 5.7.
  • Update 1.45.0 also fixes multiple crashes across the game.
  • Unreal Engine 5.7 includes several performance and optimization improvements that could benefit CPU and GPU workloads.
  • Early player reports are mixed, with some seeing improvements while others are still experiencing stuttering.

Embark confirmed the engine upgrade in the performance section of the ARC Raiders Live Update 1.45.0 patch notes, stating that the game has been upgraded from Unreal Engine 5.3 to 5.7.

This is a substantial jump for the extraction shooter. Epic Games previously described Unreal Engine 5.7 as continuing the performance work introduced with earlier UE5 versions, including improvements aimed at GPU processing, game thread performance, rendering efficiency, and handling larger environments.

And that potentially gives Embark more tools to improve CPU and GPU utilization, frame-time consistency, and overall stability. However, an engine upgrade by itself does not guarantee higher frame rates or eliminate stuttering, since performance still depends heavily on how Embark implements and optimizes those systems.

Alongside the engine change, Update 1.45.0 includes several specific stability fixes.

Embark fixed a PS5 crash that could occur shortly after beginning a session and another crash that could happen when players rapidly pressed certain keys during gameplay. The studio also fixed an issue that could leave squads stuck after a player signed out and rejoined.

There are still some known stability problems, however. Embark says it is continuing to work on Xbox Series S crashes, while a separate PC crashing issue has been linked to Windows Update KB5121003.

Has Unreal Engine 5.7 Fixed ARC Raiders Stuttering?

Early player feedback suggests the results are not universal.

Some players have reported smoother performance following the update, but others say they are experiencing increased frame drops or micro-stuttering after moving to the new engine version. A recent community discussion includes players reporting worse stuttering on certain Intel Arc GPU configurations, with some temporarily reducing the issue by switching to DirectX 11.

So, that means it is too early to say Unreal Engine 5.7 has completely fixed ARC Raiders’ stuttering problems.

Still, moving from Unreal Engine 5.3 to 5.7 gives Embark access to years of engine-level performance improvements, making Update 1.45.0 an important technical foundation for future optimization.

With Frozen Trail arriving on October 8, it will be worth watching whether Embark can use the newer engine version to deliver more consistent performance across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S as ARC Raiders continues to expand.
