Apex Legends is having one of its biggest Steam moments in months. The game just reached a 24-hour peak of 301,520 concurrent players on Steam, which marks a new seasonal high and another strong sign that Season 28 has brought a lot of players back into the Outlands. That figure was highlighted by Apex Legends insider HYPERMYST on X, and current Steam tracking pages reflect the same surge.
That kind of number matters because it shows Apex is still capable of pulling in a massive audience when Respawn lands the right mix of seasonal changes, midseason updates, and fresh reasons to log in. It is important to note, though, that this is a new record for the current season, not the gameโs all-time Steam peak. Apex Legendsโ all-time peak on Steam remains 624,473 concurrent players.
Apex Legends is making a comeback
A big part of the momentum seems tied to Apex Legends: Breach, the current season that launched on February 10, 2026. Respawn framed Breach as a season built around major gameplay shakeups, including destructible Hardlight Mesh windows, Legend updates, and broader meta changes. Those are exactly the kinds of updates that tend to get lapsed players curious enough to reinstall and active players to grind harder.
The recent midseason push likely helped too. Respawnโs Aftershock Event and its March 23 patch added more gameplay changes, more balance tuning, and another round of reasons for players to jump back in. When a live service game is already trending upward, a midseason refresh like that can keep the momentum going instead of letting it cool off.
A strong season record, but not Apexโs all-time best
Even with this new seasonal high, Apex Legends is still well below the monster numbers it posted during its biggest Steam era. The current 301,520 peak is impressive, but it is still less than half of the 624,473 all-time record on Steam. That does not make this surge any less important, though. For a game this deep into its lifecycle, crossing 300,000 concurrent players in a 24-hour window is still a major win.
What makes this spike especially notable is that it suggests Apex still has real drawing power when Respawn gets the formula right. Seven years in, plenty of live service games would love to post numbers like this, let alone set a new high for their current season. Respawn has also said its 2026 focus includes quality of life improvements, balance work, and more frequent tweaks to the gameโs day-to-day experience, which may help player confidence.
Respawn is finally paying attention
This is the kind of player spike that helps reinforce the idea that Apex still has plenty of life left in it. The game does not need to beat its all-time record every season to stay relevant. What it does need is consistent momentum, healthy engagement, and updates that make people feel like it is worth returning. Right now, it looks like Breach is doing exactly that.
Whether Apex can keep climbing from here is the real question. Seasonal spikes are one thing, but maintaining that energy is much harder. If Respawn can keep the balance updates landing, keep events meaningful, and avoid the usual frustrations that drive players away, this season could end up being remembered as one of the stronger modern rebounds for the game.
