Baldur’s Gate 3 has all the typical elements for an RPG. And you can create different elemental surfaces with these too. Here are all the elemental surfaces in the game.
Baldur’s Gate 3 gives the player a lot of room for experimentation. The game is based on the Dungeons and Dragons ruleset. And in DnD, players are free to come up with their own ideas to overcome different obstacles. While the degree of freedom cannot be matched in a video game format, Baldur’s Gate 3 makes sure you get as much freedom as possible for the type of game it is.
The elemental surface is a part of the game. Baldur’s Gate 3 rewards players for knowing the game’s mechanics properly, and this elemental surface is one of them. You can have a lot of elemental surfaces in the game, and each does something different. However, without proper knowledge of the mechanics, you cannot take advantage of the system properly. So here, we will discuss all the elemental surface types in Baldur’s Gate 3.
All Elemental Surface Types in BG3
Surface Type | What It Does |
---|---|
Water Surface | The water surface will show your party while traversing through it. It can be frozen to create an ice surface and electrified to create an electric water surface. |
Blood Surface | The blood surface is made when you attack an enemy. They can be used to put out fires. Other than that, they have no other debuff or use. |
Fire Surface | This can be created using fire spells or blowing up oils/burnable in the environment. You can dip your weapon in the fire here. Walking through the fire surface will cause your party to take damage. |
Electrified Surface | Electric surfaces can be turned into electric water surfaces by using water. You cannot dip your weapon in it, but you will take damage walking through the surface. |
Ice Surface | Ice surface reduces the speed of the character. Additionally, the character has a chance to fall and get prone, opening them to attack if they are in a battle. |
Electrified Water Surface | This surface functions pretty much the same as an electric surface. You will take damage while walking through it. Additionally, if the character has wet stat on them, they can get stunned by the surface. |
Poison Surface | Can be created by using poison spells or by throwing poisonous plants. Walking through it will force you to make a saving throw. If the throw fails, the character gets poisoned. |
Mud Surface | Mud will reduce the movement of your party. It doesn’t have any other effects. |
Caustic Brine Surface | This surface will deal damage to anyone walking through or standing on it. It can be created by throwing a caustic bulb item. |
Acid Surface | Acid Surfaces cause a -2 penalty to Armor Class for everyone who steps on it, regardless of enemy or friend. |
Smoke powder Surface | It doesn’t have any effect by itself. However, you can use fire to ignite the smoke to deal damage and turn the surface into a fire surface. |
Steam Cloud Surface | It can be created by using fire on water. Walking through the surface will give the character wet status. Wet will make them immune to burning but vulnerable to frost and lightning damage. |
