Zeri might finally be getting some of her old spark back on the League of Legends PBE. According to a new PBE update shared by Spideraxe, Riot is testing a sizable set of changes aimed at restoring more of Zeri’s classic speed-focused identity, giving her a stronger laning phase, and shaving off some of her burst damage and late-game DPS to keep the package balanced.
That direction makes a lot of sense if you have followed Zeri’s balance history over the years. Riot has repeatedly pulled power out of her mobility and late game takeover potential in past patches, including earlier changes that reduced her movement scaling and trimmed some of the hyper-carry patterns that made her so hard to keep in check.
Riot’s goals for the new Zeri PBE changes
The stated goal behind these Zeri changes is pretty clear. Riot wants to bring back more of the champion fantasy that made her feel unique in the first place. That means more speed, better lane presence, and less reliance on explosive burst windows or overwhelming late-game damage.
Spideraxe’s summary of the update specifically says the goals are to restore some of her old identity by increasing speed, increasing power in lane, and lowering burst damage plus late game DPS as compensation.
This is not just a numbers shuffle. It looks more like Riot trying to reshape where her power actually lives. Instead of being overly defined by how hard she scales into late fights, the new version seems intended to feel smoother and more active earlier while still preserving that signature movement-based playstyle.
Full Zeri PBE changes explained
The biggest lane-oriented buff is her attack range, going from 500 to 550. That is a meaningful jump for any marksman, and for Zeri, it should make trading and farming feel less awkward in early lane matchups. On top of that, her Q base damage is being increased from 15 to 23, up to 21 to 37, while her E bonus base damage is also going up from 17 to 25, up to 22 to 30.
At the same time, Riot is clearly trying to stop those buffs from snowballing into another late-game monster. Her excess attack speed to AD conversion is being reduced from 70 percent to 60 percent, her Q AD ratio is being lowered from 104 to 120 percent down to 102 to 110 percent, and her ultimate bonus AD ratio is taking a much bigger hit from 100 percent to 60 percent. Those changes point directly at scaling damage and should tone down how hard she melts targets later on.
There are also some interesting adjustments to Spark Surge. Her E now lasts for 5 seconds instead of empowering only her next 3 attacks, which could make the ability feel more flexible in extended skirmishes. But Riot is also adding some friction here by raising the cooldown at early ranks from 22 to 18 seconds up to 24 to 18 seconds, and changing the refund mechanic so it now only refunds on Q and charged attacks instead of all spells on charged attacks.
Her ultimate is where the speed fantasy really starts to show again. Lightning Crash is getting a movement speed increase from 10 percent to 15 percent, movement speed per stack is rising from 1 percent to 1.5 percent, and stack duration is being extended from 1.5 seconds to 2.5 seconds. If these changes stay intact, Zeri should feel much better at maintaining momentum in fights instead of constantly feeling like her speed drops off the second she loses contact.
There is also a notable AP leaning tweak in the package, with W’s AP ratio increasing from 25 percent to 50 percent. That does not necessarily mean AP Zeri is suddenly back in a major way, but it does show Riot is touching several parts of her kit at once rather than focusing only on raw marksman tuning.
Will these Zeri changes make it to live servers?
Not necessarily. These are PBE changes, which means Riot is still testing them and could adjust or even pull parts of the update before they hit live. Spideraxe’s post frames them as changes that should be on PBE, not final locked patch notes.
Still, the overall direction is easy to read. Riot seems to want a version of Zeri that feels faster, stronger in lane, and less overloaded as a late-game damage machine. If they can actually land that balance, Zeri mains will probably be more than happy to take the trade.
These Zeri PBE changes look like one of Riot’s more thoughtful attempts to fix a champion whose identity has always been fun but difficult to balance. The extra range, stronger early damage, and much better ultimate movement scaling should make her feel more alive again, while the nerfs to burst and late game ratios are clearly there to stop another balance disaster before it starts.
