Riot Games has been planning a UI overhaul with VALORANT for a long time. It seems like the 5.08 patch will bring them to life.

VALORANT is a tactical shooter heavily inspired by CS: GO and Overwatch. The game gained constant popularity for its gameplay, Agent-based abilities, exciting lores, and beautiful visuals of the interface, characters, and maps.

With every new update, Riot Games changes many features that improve the game’s overall quality of life. Similarly, VALORANT is planning to update its UI to let players have a more enjoyable and lively experience with its overall interface.

Although the changes may erase some of the existing functionality, they will create an all-around upgraded experience for the players beyond VALORANT’s gameplay. However, based on community feedback, Riot Games will make continuous improvements with the upcoming UI overhaul.

Upcoming VALORANT UI Changes

You might’ve noticed a different Agents browser that was added in the 5.03 update. Well, that was just a teaser. Riot Games will make several UI changes in the upcoming patch.

The upcoming UI changes include the following:

New MVP Screen

Dev Notes: “We want you to understand the importance of the team aspect of VALORANT. This new, bold team shot helps to show off your team’s MVP and your team composition while reinforcing the emotional narrative coming out of your most recent game—win or lose. We also hope this helps you appreciate the beauty of our Agent visuals with a focus on continuity into the end of game screens.” —Tea Chang, UX Design Manager

New Lobby

Dev Notes: “We wanted to remove a lot of visual clutter and improve the overall readability of the Lobby Screen. We had a lot of decoration elements that were pretty but didn’t really serve a purpose. In order to emphasize the Playercard and its representation. And to give you a clear ‘call to action,’ we increased the screen’s contrast, pushed color values, and simplified our shape language.” —Oliver Zumstein, Visual Design Manager

Dev Notes: “We want the faceoff screen to be all about the two teams about to duke it out. We removed the map so your banners could take up the screen, better showing off your identity through your chosen Player Cards, Titles and Rank badges. We punched up both side’s colors, mirrored banner layouts for symmetry, and added ‘VS’ text to emphasize the head-to-head feeling.” —Max Smiley, Staff Engineer

When is This UI Update Going Live?

As VALORANT announced, the UI update will be released along with the 5.08 patch, which is set to go live on October 18, 2022.
