CD Projekt Red has officially pulled back the curtain on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s third major expansion, titled Songs of the Past, sending longtime fans of Geralt of Rivia right back into speculation mode.
The expansion was announced through The Witcher’s official social channels, with CD Projekt Red teasing that the “medallion’s humming” once again. According to the CD Projekt, Songs of the Past will bring players back to the Path with Geralt and is being co-developed with Fool’s Theory, the studio also known for its work on The Witcher Remake. The DLC is currently planned for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2027.
The Witcher 3 Is Getting a New Expansion After More Than a Decade
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt originally launched in 2015 and went on to become one of the most beloved RPGs of all time. Its two major expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are still widely regarded as some of the best DLC releases in gaming.
Now, CD Projekt Red is returning to that world with a new story expansion more than a decade after the base game was first released.
CD Projekt has not shared the full plot yet, but the title strongly suggests a story tied to memory, legacy, and perhaps unresolved pieces of Geralt’s past.
Songs of the Past Was Previously Leaked by Polish Sources
The announcement also confirms months of rumors surrounding a new Witcher 3 expansion. Earlier reports claimed that CD Projekt Red was working with Fool’s Theory on a new story-driven DLC for The Witcher 3, with speculation pointing toward a release window before the next mainline Witcher game.
Some of that speculation was linked to Polish industry chatter and reports from journalists and analysts, including claims that the expansion could be connected to CD Projekt Red’s broader plans for the future of the franchise.
Of course, at the time, none of it was official. Now, CD Projekt Red has finally confirmed that the project is real, even if fans still have to wait for the bigger reveal.
Fool’s Theory Is Helping Bring Geralt Back
One of the most interesting parts of the announcement is Fool’s Theory’s involvement. The studio is already working on The Witcher Remake, which makes it a natural fit for a project tied so closely to CD Projekt Red’s most iconic RPG.
The Witcher 4 is already in development, but bringing players back to The Witcher 3 with Geralt gives the studio a way to keep the franchise active while the next mainline entry continues to cook.
It also gives Fool’s Theory more room to prove itself inside The Witcher universe before the remake arrives.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Release Window and Platforms
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Songs of the Past is currently scheduled to launch in 2027. CD Projekt Red confirmed that it is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, which means this expansion is being built for current-gen platforms rather than older hardware.
Geralt is returning, Fool’s Theory is helping with development, and CD Projekt Red is once again asking players to step onto the Path.
