New details regarding the Skarner rework have been revealed.
The newest Dev Update video for League of Legends has just been released. In the video, Riot gave us some fascinating titbits about the upcoming Champions, Lore changes, and, most importantly, an update on the Skarner Rework.
In February of 2022, Riot conducted a poll to determine the next champion to receive a full VGU (Visual Gameplay Update) in League of Legends. There, Skarner won by a landslide, beating out Shyvana, Kog’Maw, Tryndamere, and Nocturne.
The much-anticipated Skarner VGU was scheduled for a 2023 release, but unfortunately, it was delayed multiple times. Currently, it’s expected to be released in early 2024. Having said that, we haven’t heard anything new on the Skarner VGU in a while.
However, Riot has now provided some fresh information on the Skarner VGU in the most recent Dev Update video. Riot showcased his new design, skin concept art, and, most importantly, a sneak peek at his new abilities.
Here is what we know about the upcoming Skarner rework and its abilities.

Skarner Rework Abilities
The Skarner VGU is currently in development and may be altered before it is released next year. That being said, here’s a sneak peek at Skarner’s new abilities.
Skarner – Q
Skarner picks up a boulder and throws it in a straight line to slow enemies and deal area-of-effect Physical Damage. He is also able to carry around the boulder for a set period of time before throwing it.
Skarner – W
Skarner stomps the ground, creating a shockwave that deals Magic Damage. Similar to his current W – Crystalline Exoskeleton, it also provides a shield.
Skarner – E
Skarner charges forward, gaining bonus Movement Speed and the ability to pass through the terrain. While charging, he can grab an enemy, and if the enemy is successfully pinned into a wall, it deals bonus damage and stuns the target.
Skarner – Ultimate
No new information regarding his R has been revealed. But Riot previously announced that his Ultimate ability, Impale, will remain similar.
Release Date
The exact release date for the Skarner Rework has not been revealed yet, but it will be released in early 2024, sometime around February or March.
