Riot Renames Smites in League of Legends Patch 12.22

Smites have been renamed before the preseason patch lands soon.

As the season is coming to a close, Riot is preparing the preseason patch for League of Legends. We already know of the changes that are coming to the game, like the new jungle pets, Chemtech changes, ping system, and so on.

No preview patch was given as the lead designer of the balance team said that they are focusing on getting the preseason changes ready. Hence, a slew of stuff is being changed in the PBE before Riot launches it in the server.

We have already seen a lot of these changes, such as item names like Still-Beating Strength to Heartsteel, etc. There have also been item changes like new icons and reverting changes for some items like Arcangel’s Staff and Gargoyle Stoneplate, along with many other balance changes.

Thus, this brings us to changes of Smite names in League of Legends for the upcoming Patch 12.22 as Riot keeps adapting and changing the PBE content.

Smite Names Changed

As per Spideraxe’s tweet, The Smite name changes are as follows:

  • Primal Smite renamed to Unleashed Smite
  • Avatar Smite renamed to Primal Smite

These changes are part of Riot’s process of making good additions to the game in terms of name and other aspects. There is more to come for Patch 12.22, as the preseason patch will be released soon.

One thing to clarify, the smite changes are just for the name and not anything else. There are no changes being made to smite damage values and such in Patch 12.22.
