Riot Games addresses all the complaints surrounding League of Legends’ new top lane champion, Gwen.

After many speculations, Riot Games officially revealed League of Legends 155th champion, Gwen. Even though a lot of players thought Viego’s wife, Isolde, would be the new top laner, it turns out Gwen is tailor-made for the top lane champion.

However, Gwen and Isolde are still related to each other. Gwen is the doll that Isolde made before she knew Viego, and after her death, a fragment of her soul possessed the doll and gave it a new life.

As Gwen was supposed to be a doll-like champion, but Riot revealed a human-like character who used to be a doll, there were some mixed reactions coming from the League of Legends community.

Players Reaction

Some players think Gwen looks “sick” and they are excited about her gameplay. Many players also appreciated her accent and champion theme, and they believe Riot did a great job in making her animations.

On the other hand, there are a lot of players who totally disagree with those. They are mainly disappointed because Gwen doesn’t look like a “doll.” They were very excited about a living doll champion in League of Legends, but they got to see another human-like champion once again.

Moreover, some also said she doesn’t sell the “Living doll” vibe in her character design, and Riot had to put some “extra” in her design to make her a little bit doll-like.

Riot’s Response

After all these complaints, League of Legends’ lead champion producer Ryan “Reav3” Mireles explained why Gwen doesn’t look like a living doll.

According to Reav3, “She’s not meant to be a living doll.”

“She is a doll that has been transformed into a human, similar to Pinocchio,” Reav3 added. “We had early versions where she was more of a living doll but it felt too similar to Oriana and even more so to Shaco.”

Gwen is expected to come out in the Summoner’s Rift on patch 11.8.
