Buckle up League of Legends fans, Riot Games confirms that Ghostcrawler will be working on developing the League of Legends MMO.
From having a successful League of Legends Worlds to releasing multiple new hit titles, 2020 has been a great year for Riot Games. Riot’s first-person shooter VALORANT that was released in June of 2020, took the gaming community by storm, and became one of the most searched games of the year.
Moreover, in 2020, Riot has also released the mobile version of League of Legends, Wild Rift that is currently on the open beta and receiving positive feedback from the mobile gaming community. On the other hand, Legends of Runeterra, which was released back in January also won the Best Game of 2020 award in Google Play Store.
And apparently, Riot is giving all 3000 of its employees a 10% salary bonus for having a great year.
But Riot Games isn’t stopping there. For 2021, they have already announced Project L, Riot’s upcoming fighting game, and Ruined King: A League of Legends Story. However, even with so many new titles, fans have been asking Riot to release a League of Legends MMO for years now.
And now after all these times, Riot Games’ VP of IP and Entertainment, Ghostcrawler has announced that they are currently working on a League of Legends MMO.
“My recent job at Riot has been to help develop the League universe, which we’re going to need!” Greg Street said. “Because it is time. My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to create.”
Even though it was not clear at first what project he will be working on, but replying to a fan he did confirm that “It is an MMO.”
Reactions from other Rioters and Fans
After the confirmation by Ghostcrawler, a lot of Rioters and fans have shared how excited they are for the upcoming MMO that is set in the League universe.
The release date and details about the League of Legends MMO are still unknown but we can expect to see more information in 2021.
