Rainbow Six Siege, a tactical first-person shooter developed by Ubisoft, has experienced tremendous growth throughout the years that it has existed. The FPS game is halfway into its seventh year, having amassed an audience of over 85 million in 2022.

Mute: the 1-Speed, 3-health defender, is one of the few non-DLC operators in the game. This SAS defender is one of the best anchors in the game because of his loadout and utility. So, when picking this operator, here are some of the things you should know.

Mute Operator Guide

“People think my codename is because I don’t like to talk. Maybe I just don’t like you.”

An exceptional and well-rounded student, Chandar was one of the youngest accepted into the University of Cambridge. He majored in electronics and computer engineering, completing an internship at a prestigious tech company where he contributed to the design and function of security system prototypes. His ingenuity caught the attention of Britain’s national security office, the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). Having demonstrated acuity in code breaking, Chandar became an intelligence officer within the signals intelligence (SIGINT) unit. He continues to contribute to the applied technical research team and has recently expanded his field of study to include learning Korean.

For someone so focused on science he surprised me. His hometown of York is one of the most historic cities in England and it’s a city I adore. He described in wonderful detail how he had to pass the Gothic church on his walk to school. He liked to lean back and look up at the bell tower for so long that it made him wobbly. […] My meeting with Chandar reminded me that we here at Rainbow tend to focus on how our operators excel in the STEM fields, but there is great value in our operators having passion and interests across a broad spectrum of studies. Chandar demonstrates why he’s much more than someone who is used to being the smartest person in the room. Despite his young age, I’m certain he has something to teach the others.

Best Weapon Loadout

  • Primary Weapon: MP5K (SMG), M590A1 (Shotgun)
  • Secondary Weapon: SMG-11 (Machine Pistol), P226 MK 25 (Handgun)
  • Secondary Gadgets: Bulletproof Camera / Nitro Cell
  • Unique ability: SIGNAL DISRUPTOR

Mute can pick either the MP5 SMG or the M590A1 Shotgun as his primary weapon. The MP5K has a moderate fire rate and damage but almost no recoil. So controlling this gun, even at longer-range fights, should be a walk in the park. The fire rate and the low recoil can help you land some crucial headshots. This SMG has no magnifying scope, so you must choose a 1x of your preference. For attachments, the flash hider and vertical grip is our recommended choice.

On the other hand, the M590A1 shotgun can pack a serious punch. With Mute becoming a 1-Speed 3-Health operator in Y7S4 Operation Solar Raid, the M590A1 Shotgun paired with the SMG-11 secondary will be an effective loadout. This shotgun will only be viable for close-range gunfights, so if you can anchor in-site and hold tight corners. Additionally, the shotgun will allow Mute to remodel the bombsites by creating the necessary rotates and angles.

As his secondary, the SMG-11 should the easy choice, as it is considered one of the best secondary weapons in the game. The recoil of this gun might be a bit difficult to control for beginners, but once you master it, the SMG-11 can be very deadly, as it has one of the highest fire-rate out of all weapons in Siege. For its attachment, we will suggest using the Flash Hider, but you could try other options, according to your liking.

Secondary Gadget

Mute can pick a bulletproof camera or a nitro cell as his secondary gadget. The bulletproof camera can provide valuable visual intel to your team, while the nitro cell can be used to get some crucial kills. So here, the choice is up to you and your team composition. BP cameras can also be used to emp drones, which can be another obstacle for the Attackers.

Unique Ability

Mute’s primary gadget is called Signal Disruptor,” commonly known as ‘Mute Jammer.’ This gadget can only be placed on a horizontal surface like floors, tables, or boxes. Unlike Melusi’s Banshee or Maestro’s evil eyes, you cannot place jammers on walls. As the name suggests, Mute’s signal disruptor interferes with the Attacker’s electronic gadgets within a spherical shape of a radius of 2.25 meters.

Mute has 4 jammers in his arsenal that he can deploy around the map; all are available at the start of the preparation phase. The signal disruptors can be easily destroyed with a single bullet, explosions, or a carefully maneuvered zap from a Twitch drone. Mute’s device has no time limits and does not need to be recharged.

Mute can play the role of an anti-intel defender, as he can effectively prevent attackers from droning a certain part of the map. In a game like Siege, gathering intel is key in winning rounds, so Mute jammers will put attackers at a disadvantage by denying intel or slowing them down by having to take care of the jammer first.

Additionally, Mute can act as a wall-denier by stopping Attackers from breaching hard walls. However, the recent change to a Mute’s effective radius shape from a cylindrical one to spherical has nerfed his ability to prevent wall breaches completely.

Tips and Tricks:

(i) If your team composition already includes a wall-denier like Kaid or Bandit, then focus on placing the jammers to deny drones.

(ii) You can combine a Castle barricade with a Mute jammer, making it even harder for drones to pass under or even stop breach charges or launched explosives like Ash charges.

(iii) Place jammers on top of tables or boxes to affect drones vertically on above floors.

(iv) With Mute becoming a 1-Speed operator, you need to be time-efficient during the preparation phase to place all your jammers in the right spot.

How to counter Mute?

As stated above, Mute’s jammers can be countered by firing a single bullet or any explosive near it. Thatcher’s EMP can disable the gadget, and IQ can spot the device with her scanner. On the other hand, Twitch’s Shock Drone can destroy it with a single bullet.

Should you pick Mute?

Mute is a versatile operator with a good loadout and an easy-to-use primary gadget. The Signal Disruptor is an effective gadget to deny intel and slow down Attackers. When placing down the jammers, you should consider where the Attackers will most likely come from. It is a good idea to save one jammer and place it away from the objective to help you hold other parts of the map and roam around safely.
