Sony returned with another packed PlayStation State of Play on September 3, 2026, bringing a mixture of brand-new game announcements, expansion reveals, release dates, gameplay trailers, and updates for some of the biggest upcoming PS5 titles.
The showcase included everything from a launch trailer for Marvelโs Wolverine to the reveal of Maneater 2, while Square Enix finally confirmed when Final Fantasy VII Revelation will arrive. Sony also revealed new content for games such as Crimson Desert, Monster Hunter Wilds, Saros, Gran Turismo 7, and Ghost of Yลtei.
Sony followed the main presentation with a separate State of Play Japan focused on games from Japan and Asia. The list below focuses specifically on the main State of Play broadcast.

Maneater 2 Officially Revealed
One of the biggest surprise announcements was Maneater 2, the sequel to Tripwire Interactive’s shark action RPG.
This time, players control another man-eating bull shark trapped inside Neptune’s Kingdom, an enormous luxury island theme park. Players will once again eat, explore, evolve, and work their way up the food chain, with the sequel being developed using Unreal Engine 5.
Maneater 2 is currently scheduled to release sometime in 2027.
Metro 2039 Gets a February 2027 Release Date
4A Games brought Metro 2039 to State of Play with the first console gameplay running on PS5 Pro.
The new single-player FPS follows a mysterious former Spartan known as The Stranger through a post-apocalyptic Moscow. The game retains Metro’s familiar mixture of survival mechanics, exploration, stealth, and brutal first-person combat.
Metro 2039 launches February 4, 2027.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Launches in April 2027
Square Enix closed the presentation with an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
The gameplay showcase highlighted the enormous expanded world, Highwind exploration, chocobos, playable party members, the FITS combat system, and the return of Queen’s Blood.
Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches April 8, 2027 on PS5.
Until Dawn 2 Arrives January 2027
Firesprite also returned with another look at Until Dawn 2, featuring the Dead True ghost-hunting crew and their investigation of the mysterious Akishima Island.
Much like the original, player decisions can dramatically change the story and determine who survives the night.
Until Dawn 2 is scheduled to launch on January 28, 2027.
Crimson Desert and Monster Hunter Wilds Are Getting Huge Expansions
Pearl Abyss revealed the first trailer for Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, a major expansion that continues Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane’s journeys across Pywel. The DLC arrives in October 2026.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance
Capcom also unveiled Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a massive 2027 expansion introducing a new story, monsters, mechanics, and the Skybound Eyrie region.
Ghost of Yลtei, Saros, and Gran Turismo 7 Get New Content
Ghost of Yลtei: Most Wanted brings a new roguelike-inspired single-player survival mode as part of the Complete Edition on October 1. The biggest surprise is the return of Ghost of Tsushima protagonist Jin Sakai as a playable character.
Housemarque also announced the free Saros: Zenith update, adding Overlord Rush, Eclipse Layers New Game Plus, additional progression options, and new accessibility settings later in 2026.
Meanwhile, Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV will arrive in two separate updates. The first launches in October, followed by another in December, bringing 12 cars, additional circuits, new race modes, and Family Mode.
Final Fantasy Resonance Demo Is Available Now
Square Enix also gave Final Fantasy Resonance another spotlight ahead of its October 22 release.
The HD-2D RPG features turn-based combat, jobs, summons, chocobos, airships, and many of the elements associated with classic Final Fantasy. More importantly, a free PS5 demo containing the entire first chapter is available now, and save data can be transferred into the full game.
New Games Hunterโs Moon, Uncanyon, and Rhapsody in Scarlet Revealed
The showcase had several smaller surprises as well.
Hunterโs Moon is a first-person historical folk-horror game from Twin Swans set during the English witch hunts. Players control an accused woman attempting to survive one night while avoiding those hunting her. It launches October 25 in North America and October 26 in most other regions.
Uncanyon, from Maquette developer Graceful Decay and Annapurna Interactive, is a puzzle-focused adventure built around manipulating converging alternate realities. It launches in 2027.
Konami also unveiled Rhapsody in Scarlet, an action-adventure set in 1920s New York where players combine magical abilities with powerful beasts to create stylish combat combos. A release date has not been announced.
PlayStation Plus Gets Four More Games
Sony also announced four additions headed to PlayStation Plus.
- Mycopunk, published by Devolver Digital, is a co-op looter shooter coming to the Game Catalog later in 2026.
- Mega Man X: Command Mission, Capcom’s turn-based RPG, joins the Classics Catalog in September.
- Dino Crisis 2, Capcom’s classic action-adventure game, joins PlayStation Plus Premium later in 2026.
- Ratchet & Clank, the original Insomniac action-platformer, is also coming to the Classics Catalog later in 2026.
PlayStation State of Play September 2026 Had Plenty More Than Games
Sony had a few non-game announcements mixed into the presentation as well.
The broadcast opened with footage from the upcoming Resident Evil live-action movie, while Sony and LEGO revealed a 1,911-piece LEGO PlayStation set based on the original console.
Rockstar and PlayStation also revealed two Grand Theft Auto VI Limited Edition DualSense controllers, which launch alongside GTA 6 on November 19, 2026.
Overall, the September State of Play delivered a surprisingly varied lineup. Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Metro 2039, Gundam Rogue Orbit, and Until Dawn 2 gave players several major dates to add to the 2027 calendar, while games such as Maneater 2, Rhapsody in Scarlet, and Hunterโs Moon added some fresh surprises to Sony’s upcoming PS5 lineup.
