Pearl Abyss has officially revealed the first trailer for Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, the game’s first major DLC expansion. Shown during the September 2026 PlayStation State of Play, the expansion takes players beyond the familiar reaches of Pywel with new stories, ocean exploration, underwater adventures, housing features, and powerful new enemies.
Charting the Unknown is scheduled to release on October 15, 2026, giving Crimson Desert players another substantial adventure to jump into next month.
In brief:
- Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown launches on October 15, 2026.
- Players will be able to sail across the ocean, explore new islands, and dive underwater.
- Expanded housing, facility management, new enemies, and additional stories are coming.
- Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane will each continue their journeys across Pywel.
Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown Expands Pywel Beyond the Shore
One of the biggest additions shown in the reveal is full ocean exploration. Players will be able to take command of a ship and travel beyond Pywel’s coastline to discover previously unexplored islands.
The adventure also heads beneath the surface. Pearl Abyss says players can dive underwater to search for treasures, investigate sunken ruins, and uncover hidden mysteries scattered beneath the waves.
The trailer even shows off some of these new mechanics in action, including sailing and underwater traversal, suggesting the ocean will be much more than scenery in the upcoming expansion.
New Enemies and Bigger Battles Are Coming
Charting the Unknown will also introduce new threats across both land and sea. Pearl Abyss is promising formidable enemies that will require players to adapt their strategies, while the reveal trailer teases some particularly unusual encounters.

Among them are massive mechanical enemies, further leaning into the strange mix of fantasy and advanced technology that Crimson Desert has explored throughout Pywel.
Housing and Life in Pywel Are Getting Bigger

Combat and exploration are not the only areas receiving attention. Players will be able to rent and manage different facilities to generate income, while an upgraded Housing mode will provide more opportunities to create a personal home. Pearl Abyss also says players can develop deeper relationships by interacting with the people living throughout Pywel.
Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane Return With New Stories

The DLC continues the stories of Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane as each character attempts to discover their purpose and shape their future.
Pearl Abyss is teasing several storylines, including an ominous force appearing in the desert, political conflict, a journey involving time, and an ancient secret hidden beneath the ocean.

With sailing, underwater exploration, expanded housing, new enemies, and another chapter of Pywel’s story, Charting the Unknown looks like a sizable expansion to Crimson Desert rather than a simple content drop.
