Monster Hunter Wilds was one of the most eagerly awaited games in the series when it debuted on PC in February 2025. The game had expansive settings, exhilarating hunts, and everything longtime fans want. Unfortunately, the PC port’s technical state was awful. What should have been a seamless action felt choppy and unpredictable due to the PC port’s terrible performance, frequent stuttering, and excruciating 1% low framerate issues. As a result, there was a surge of negative Steam reviews that were primarily critical of the game’s technical issues.

Monster Hunter Wilds’ PC Port Disaster at Launch

Monster Hunter Wilds’ PC version struggled during its initial release. Both reviewers and players complained about crashes, sudden frame drops, and stutters that interrupted hunts and immersion. The 1% low performance was particularly annoying, as even when average frame rates were acceptable, the severe frame drops made games feel sluggish and unreliable. This technical issue lowered the user review score and obscured the game’s design appeal.

Capcom recognized performance difficulties and committed to multi-patch optimization plans as a result of widespread complaints. Several updates sought to enhance CPU and GPU performance during 2025, but many players thought the modifications were insufficient.

Recent Patch Brings Noticeable Performance Improvements

Capcom released an extensive PC performance patch in late January 2026, which drastically changed opinions of the game’s performance on PC. This version included several enhancements targeted at reducing processing load, optimizing texture streaming, and introducing additional graphics and CPU options to the settings menu. Initial reviews from players testing the latest patch show that the notorious stuttering has been greatly decreased, and the 1% lows have improved, making the experience smoother and more consistent.

Early PC player testing suggests the improvements are not purely theoretical. Many players reported that previously stutter-prone sections now feel considerably more stable. This has led some in the community to believe it is finally playable in a way that justifies its PC system requirements.

PC Players Finally Received Some Love

For die-hard fans of this franchise, the recent updates feel like Monster Hunter Wilds might finally be the game PC players expected on day one. The framerate issues were a major talking point and likely contributed to a slower long-term sales momentum than Capcom hoped. The January patch and subsequent performance optimization promise to bring players back into the fold, feeling like their hardware investment can shine.

Nevertheless, it’s important to note that this improved state should have been the initial launch experience. A game with such technical ambition deserved solid performance on day one, and the rough launch left a sour first impression that even now may take time to fully overcome. But with performance finally trending in the right direction, players who stuck with it or are returning now have reason for optimism.

Capcom has said that they aim to make more performance improvements in February and beyond. This means that the PC experience could keep getting better. The game’s performance getting better might be enough to bring back players who were turned off at first before the next big content dump.
