Riot has hotfix nerfed the newest League of Legends champion, Milio.
Since League of Legends is a live service game, Riot must constantly release new content to keep the game fresh. And one of these contents is new champions.
We have seen many new champions get released over the years. But there is a trend that persists with every single new champion release, which is that, those champions are overpowered. This trend continued for a while till the release of K’Sante, because instead of being overpowered after release, he was underpowered. But K’Sante was a rare exception. And even in his current state, he is neither strong nor weak.
However, recently Riot released the first champion of the year, Milio. He is an enchanter support champion, aiming to bring diversity to the bot lane. Milio uses his fire to heal and buff his allies while damaging and slowing his enemies with the same fire.
Milio’s passive allows his enchanted allies to deal bonus damage. Furthermore, their allies’ attack also burns the enemies over 1.5 seconds. Milio also has a CC ability in the form of his Q-Ultra Mega Fire Kick. Using his Q, Milio can stun the first enemy hit. Using Milio’s W-Cozy Campfire, he can heal his allies and himself while also granting them bonus attack range.
Additionally, his E-Warm Hugs grant himself or a targeted ally a shield and bonus movement speed. Finally, Milio’s ultimate Breath of Life removes every CC from him and his allies within a specific range. Moreover, he also gives his ally healing and 65% tenacity.
Though it hasn’t even been 24 hours after his release, Riot has hotfix nerfed him because of how strong he is in the solo queue.

Milio received the fastest hotfix nerfs out of every other new champion. The main reason is his win rate, especially in high elo.
When a champion is newly released, their win rate usually tanks down since many people are trying that new champion out. Around the same time, that champion would have the highest pick rate out of most other champions. Typically, a new champion has a below 49% win rate but, around the same time, has an over 15% pick rate.
However, in the case of Milio, it is different. While he has an average over 18% pick rate, his win rate, on the other hand, is over 52%. Having an over 50% win rate as a new champion is not normal. Moreover, it means that the champion is a tad bit too strong. That is why Riot is nerfing his passive, E and W.
With the newest nerfs, Milio’s allies deal less damage late game since his max rank AD scaling went from 50% to 35%. Even Milio’s late-game healing was also nerfed substantially. Furthermore, his E shield is also receiving a slight nerf, but Riot is not touching the movement speed buff that it provides.
Two of Milio’s abilities that are not receiving any nerfs are his Q and ultimate. Since both abilities are substantial parts of Milio’s kit, we might see some slight nerfs to them in the upcoming patches.
