Metaphor: ReFantazio combines turn-based combat with real-time action, offering a fresh take on the genre similar to the developers’ Persona series.
Like Persona, combat in Metaphor: ReFantazio requires great strategy. In addition to the various archetypes, abilities, and enemies in the game, you also have to take note of Status Ailments.
Status Ailments are effects put on a target, whether it be a party member or enemy, that cause negative effects to them during a battle and even in the overworld.
These ailments can have a variety of effects, ranging from debuffs to taking damage over time, and even losing a turn.
Ailments can be a very annoying and deadly threat during combat and can easily turn the tide of battle for both you and the enemy. As such, it is a good idea to know what each Status Ailment can do to strategize effectively, and to know when curing one takes top priority.

All Status Ailments

There are two types of Status Ailments that can be inflicted: Physical Ailments and Mental Ailments.
Physical Ailments consists of conditions that deals damage over time and prevents healing and other support functions.
These ailments do not go away after the battle ends and require healing.
Mental Ailments primarily shuts down attacks and skills. These ailments can quickly take combat out of your control and need to be dealt with quickly.
These ailments go away after combat ends but are a great threat during combat.

Patra

In addition to using items to cure status ailments, it is a good idea to have a Healer Archetype in your party. Healers have access to the ability Patra, which can heal any status ailment.
Having access to Patra can be the difference between life and death in many situations.
