Lux and Sona currently have 61% and 55% win rate respectively making them the highest and second-highest win rate champions in patch 10.16.
Before the Spellthief’s Edge rework on patch 9.23, Sona bot was a must pick or ban champion in the pro games. On top of her self peeling, she used to be paired with tank support like Taric who can peel her even more. That duo was so broken that after completion of the core items they were basically unkillable. Which resulted in Riot to rework the support item entirely.
After that rework, Sona bot kinda became an absolute pick. But in patch 10.15, Riot Games decided to buff the Spellthief’s Edge once again. And with the new buffs, Sona bot found her glory once again but this time not with any tank support but with another mage Lux.

And apparently it seems like, with this new duo, Sona is popping off in the League of Legends even more. Currently, on patch 10.16, Sona has around 55% win rate in almost every Elo which is the second-highest win rate in the game. Meanwhile, Lux has around a 61.93% win rate in Plat+ making her the highest win rate champion in League of Legends at this moment.
Judging from the win rate it is pretty much clear that Lux and Sona are currently the best duos in the game.
Why Sona and Lux bot a thing and how to play them
There are two big reasons why they are currently outperforming everyone else in the bot lane. First, it is because of the patch 10.15 Spellthief’s Edge buff where Riot buffed its mana regen from 25% to 50%. As Sona and Lux are weak in the early game, this extra 25% mana regen actually helped them to poke as much as possible early on.
Secondly, it is because of the Guardian buff on Patch 10.12 which increased its trigger radius, shield duration, and a new triggering effect. And taking this rune helps them survive in the laning phase.
Sona and Lux Bot: Rune
Taking Guardian on both Lux and Sona is very efficient as it procs way too often if taken by both of them. But after taking a look at some one tricks match history, it seems like a lot of times either Sona or Lux is taking the Summon Aery as well.
Sona and Lux Bot: Build
In this new synergy, both Sona and Lux start the game with Spellthief’s Edge. For Sona, three core items are Archangel’s Staff > Sorcerer’s Shoes > Lich Bane, and the rest of them are situational.
Lux builds most of the supports items while maxing her W. Her core three items are Athene’s Unholy Grail > Ionian Boots of Lucidity > Ardent Censer.
Supports like Blitzcrank and Pyke can be a great counter to look out for when picking Lux and Sona in the Bot lane. However, if their win rate continues to stay like this it is very likely that Riot will nerf them very soon.
