Riot Games officially confirms that they will be releasing a new ADC champion in early 2022 and the support a few patches after.
Last year, Riot Games shared their goal of releasing five new champions — one champion per role each year. And in the Season 2021 cinematic, they again assured that there will also be five new champions in 2021 as well.
In order to fulfill that goal, Riot has already released four champions including Viego and three champions closely released to him. However, instead of being in a separate role, two champions — Akshan and Vex are released to be Mid lane champions.
“Both of the champions we planned to release towards the end of the year were originally meant to tie into an event, but as development went on it became clear they didn’t quite fit,” Riot on the Akshan and Vex’s release. “We felt good about both champions’ directions and didn’t want to change them to fit in with the event, so we decided to stay true to their characters.”
As both ADC and Support roles are now left behind in 2021, Riot Games has now confirmed on the latest Champion Roadmap: September 2021 that they will be releasing the ADC early next year and the support a few patches after.
Ride The Lightning: New ADC
The first champion to release in 2022 is a bot lane marksman titled “Ride The Lightning”. According to Riot, the upcoming ADC is a kinetic marksman “who’s always on the move” and pulsing with spark determination.
The new marksman loves to play the game at a machine-gun pace and brings the feeling of a shooter game to the roster.
One key point Riot mentioned about the new ADC on the champion roadmap is that they are re-exploring the role of the basic attack in the marksman champion’s kit — similar to Graves, Xayah, and Jhin.
“For this new champ, we wanted to re-explore the role of the basic attack in a marksman champion’s kit and see if we could completely turn its purpose around,” Riot on the new ADC champion. “I’m getting amped just thinking about it, and if you are as well, get ready for a hyper new champion very early next year.”
Cash Rules Everything Around Me: New Support
Here are the upcoming Support champion’s descriptions according to Riot on the Champion Roadmap:
“Money runs this city. Technology, power, people. All can be bought when you have enough cash. Technology to reach out and take what you want, discarding it like trash when you’re done. Power to turn your enemies against each other, watching them kill the very ones they swore to protect. And people to manipulate with your terrifying charisma, sending them to almost certain death, only being saved if they fulfill your wishes.”
