League of Legends is getting its first micropatch of the year, with Patch 26.01b set to go live shortly. Following the launch of Patch 26.01, Riot Games is stepping in to address a handful of balance outliers that emerged early, while leaving broader systemic changes for Patch 26.02.

According to Riot, the overall state of the game is mostly within expectations. Average match length has increased slightly by around 1.5 percent, but extreme snowballing and game duration issues have not significantly shifted. With more data still coming in, this micropatch focuses strictly on the most urgent balance concerns.

Champion Buffs in Patch 26.01b

Several champions are receiving targeted buffs aimed at improving consistency and late-game impact. Graves sees notable improvements to his critical strike scaling, allowing him to convert crit builds into more serious damage more reliably. Quinn gains better scaling and smoother passive uptime, strengthening her roaming and dueling potential. Tryndamere also benefits from stronger crowd control duration and increased base damage, giving him more pressure in extended fights.

These changes are designed to lift underperforming picks without pushing them beyond acceptable power levels.

Champion Nerfs Target Key Outliers

A small group of champions that were performing well above expectations is being dialed back. Aphelios loses a significant amount of lethality scaling from his abilities, reducing his mid-game burst. Kayle takes a hit to her early attack damage alongside a cost increase, slowing her early power curve. Nilah receives reductions to both attack speed growth and critical scaling, limiting her snowball potential. Rammus is also nerfed, with lower magic resistance scaling on his defensive ability and reduced base health to tone down his early jungle dominance.

These nerfs are meant to stabilize win rates rather than fully redefine these champions’ roles.

Essence Reaver Nerf Highlights System Changes

Outside of champion tuning, Essence Reaver is the only item targeted in Patch 26.01b. Riot identified it as a clear outlier, prompting reductions to its attack damage and an increased gold cost. Rather than immediately adjusting the champions who rely on the item, Riot plans to observe how this change affects bot lane balance before taking further action.

Other items, such as Bandlepipes and Dusk & Dawn, are still being monitored but did not meet the threshold for immediate changes.

Jungle Role and Meta Observations

Early data suggests a shift in jungle balance, with attack damage junglers dropping slightly in effectiveness while tank junglers gain ground. However, Riot noted that only Graves and Rammus required immediate action, with broader jungle tuning postponed until Patch 26.02 once the meta stabilizes further.

Ranked and Non-Gameplay Updates

Riot is also addressing several non-gameplay issues alongside the patch. Problems with the Demacia Rising feature are still under investigation, with updates expected once services are restored. Ranked placement errors affecting some players in the KR and JP regions are being corrected, and a rare issue where autofilled players are not receiving Aegis is currently under review. Outside of these cases, Ranked systems are reported to be functioning normally.

What Comes Next After Patch 26.01b

Patch 26.01b is intended as a light corrective pass rather than a full rebalance. Riot plans to share a clearer stance on role power and systemic balance after gathering more data, with larger and more comprehensive changes expected in Patch 26.02.

For now, players can expect a more stable early-season experience as Riot continues to closely monitor how the meta evolves.
