Hogwarts Legacy was already one of Warner Bros. Games’ biggest releases ever, but a newly surfaced figure gives us a better idea of just how successful Avalanche Software’s Wizarding World RPG has been. According to former Avalanche Software Marketing Manager and Community Manager Chandler Wood, Hogwarts Legacy contributed to more than 40 million units sold and over $2 billion in revenue during his time working on the game. Wood left Avalanche and WB Games in November 2025 after four years with the company.
In brief
- Hogwarts Legacy has reportedly generated more than $2 billion in revenue.
- Warner Bros. officially confirmed more than 40 million copies sold worldwide in December 2025.
- The game earned $850 million from 12 million sales in its first two weeks.
- Warner Bros. has not separately announced the $2 billion figure in a press release or financial filing.
Hogwarts Legacy Has Sold More Than 40 Million Copies
The sales figure mentioned by Wood lines up with Warner Bros. Games’ official numbers. In December 2025, the publisher announced that Hogwarts Legacy had surpassed 40 million copies sold worldwide across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC.

Its success was apparent almost immediately after launch. Hogwarts Legacy sold more than 12 million copies and generated $850 million in global sales within its first two weeks. By May 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery reported that the game had passed 15 million copies and $1 billion in retail sales.
The game continued selling long after launch. Sales reached 22 million copies by the end of 2023, followed by more than 30 million by October 2024. Warner Bros. eventually confirmed the 40 million milestone in December 2025.

The $2 billion revenue figure has not yet been formally announced by Warner Bros. Discovery. Instead, it comes from Wood’s professional work history, where he credited his work on Hogwarts Legacy with contributing to over $2 billion in revenue. The figure has since been reported publicly following its discovery.
It is also important to distinguish revenue from profit. The $2 billion figure represents money generated by the game, not necessarily the amount Warner Bros. ultimately kept after platform fees, development costs, marketing expenses, licensing, and other costs.
Still, combined with more than 40 million copies sold, the figure further establishes Hogwarts Legacy as one of Warner Bros. Games’ biggest commercial successes.
