Riot has revealed all the changes coming to Kayle in patch 13.9.

There are many champions in League of Legends. Some of these champions were released as early as 2009. Moreover, some of these champions have received very few changes. But if a champion is outperforming or underperforming, Riot usually adjusts them by giving them a buff or nerf. But if a champion is weak or problematic, the developers often opt for a rework. Riot’s first time reworking a champion was in 2012, and that champion was Kayle.

Kayle is a champion, released in 2009. But she was weaker than other top laners. So even after several small and large reworks, Riot eventually gave her a VGU in early 2019.

The VGU solved many prominent issues of pre-rework Kayle. For example, before, she did not have a proper identity. But because of the rework, Riot solidified Kayle as a late-game hyper-carry. Moreover, she is also a versatile pick, as she can use both AP and AD items. So regardless of team composition, a dedicated Kayle main could still do her work in all situations.

However, because of her late-game versatility, Riot made Kayle extremely weak in the early game. Because of her early game irrelevance, she burdens her team. And around the time she reaches her true potential, the match is already over. Moreover, her kit is abysmal, especially in the game’s early stages.

RiotAugust announced earlier this year that Kayle would receive a mini-rework to improve her kit. And now we have the list of all the upcoming changes.

Kayle Changes Patch 13.9

  • Base Stats
    • Attack speed ratio reduced from .667 to .658
  • Passive – Divine Ascent
    • Wave base damage changed from 15 – 35 based on E rank to 26 – 40 (lvl 11 – 18)
    • Wave AP ratio reduced from 25% to 20%
  • Q – Radiant Blast
    • Slow reduced from 26% – 50% to 25% – 45%
  • R – Divine Judgment
    • Base damage reduced from 200 – 500 to 200 – 400
    • AP ratio reduced from 80% to 70%
    • Bonus AD ratio reduced from 100% to 90%
    • Invulnerable duration changed from 2 – 3 seconds to 2.5 flat
    • Damage range increased from 500 flat to 675 – 775
    • Cast time reduced from 1.5 to .5

These changes are overall more nerfs than buffs. Besides her ultimate slightly, no other stats are receiving substantial buffs.

Her base stats, passive and Q, are receiving huge nerfs. While the base damage of Kayle’s passive was increased, the AP ratio was also reduced. This passive change is not a huge deal if the player opts for AD Kayle.

Kayle’s ultimate is receiving most of the changes in this patch. Regarding nerfs, Riot is nerfing the base damage, AP and AD Ratio. But the invulnerability time has changed from 2-3 seconds to 2.5 seconds flat. It is a good change as it makes the ultimate more consistent. Furthermore, the cast time was reduced from 1.5 seconds to .5 seconds, meaning she can actually cast some auto attack while invulnerable.

We still don’t know how these changes will affect the game, and players are already speculating that the changes are overall a nerf. So we have to wait and see.

Release Date

These Kayle changes are expected to hit live servers on patch 13.9, scheduled to release on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
